Falling To Pieces
A Shipshewana Amish Mystery book 1
by Vannetta Chapman
The idea for an Amish cozy mystery came from my editor at Zondervan. I happen to think the focal point of the story is not the murder, but the friendships that develop within the community. And THAT was inspired by so many middle-aged women I know who feel isolated and are longing for true, meaningful friendships.
Most books I write in 4-6 months. I'm sure it didn't take any longer than that, as I had one due every 6 months for this series.
I did fall in love with Max, the golden retriever. He's one of those "characters" that just popped up without asking permission. lol. However, I think experiencing the unconditional love of a pet was an important break-through moment for Callie.
My goal is always that readers will be more aware of God's grace in their life.
My editor at Zondervan chose Shipshewana. I had never heard of it! Since then we have visited many times, and the people are always lovely.
Ack! I have problems with character names. If I hear a good name, I'll make a not ein my phone. I'm always running out of names! :)
Hubby and I were sitting outside at a local burger join. I started talking to him about the last time we were there with the dog--and I knew something was wrong by the look on his face. Then I remembered, we don't have a dog! It was a scene I wrote in the book! This happens more often than I care to admit.
Jeremiah 29:11 has long been a verse that I cling to.
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
In this story, Callie's faith is in its infancy, and Deborah does not try to convert her! However, she does constantly remind her of God's faithfulness. I hope, as readers enjoy this book, that they too will be reminded God has a plan for each of us.
