This slim little book packs quite a story in just over 150 pages. Part psychological drama, part suspense, some police procedural, and with the slightest hint of romance, Paul Trembling delves deeply into the mind of man left reeling from a senseless tragedy. Each chapter covers one day, and in a little over a week the main character faces more drama and danger than he could have ever anticipated. Told in the first-person perspective Local Poet was a quick and interesting read with an ending that totally kept me on the edge of my seat. One a side note there is a little language that may or may not bother some people. Because of that, and just the tone of the storytelling, if I were to pick a single word to describe this book I would choose 'real'.
