My Review

Their battle has only just begun...

Over recent years I have come across some pretty good Christian (or clean) YA fantasy fiction. Some of them have been by authors I was already familiar with and some have been entirely new to me. Radiant is the second Color Theory book from one of those new to me authors and Ashley Bustamante has definitely captured the vibrant magic for a second time.

And magical it most certainly is, Ashley Bustamante's dystopian is vivid and most colorful. Just as the first book in the series did, Radiant captures the imagination and holds it from start to finish. As the Color Theory characters - some loved and others not so much – struggle with changes, danger, betrayal, sacrifice, and finding their place in the world one can't help but be caught up in their story.

Radiant and the Color Theory series may be aimed at a YA audience but Ashley Bustamante has successfully penned a tale that's equally as enjoyable for any fantasy loving adult.

I was a bit sad to turn the last page in Radiant but the cliffhanger ending let me know that there will be at least one more Color Theory novel from Ashley Bustamante and I couldn't be more excited to read it...

My Review

Can they find the answers before it's too late?

Wow, that was quite a story! It was intriguing, hard to put down, and entertaining. But there was a great deal more to it than the usual surface 'good story' value that was unexpected but very welcome.

I actually started Counterfeit Faith with high hopes as I had loved the first Hidden Hearts Of The Gilded Age book so much. And, I am most pleased to say that this third book, I somehow accidentally missed reading book two, turned out to be every bit as good book one.

The characters were just as delightful or dastardly depending on which side they happened to fall on. The Gilded Age setting came to life quite vividly in Crystal Caudill's capable hands. And the fact that it was a romantic suspense novel cleverly wrapped up in a historical romance made it all the more enjoyable for me as I am a fan of both genres.

However, as much as I liked being entertained by an excellent story it the line where the title of the book was explained really resonated with me in a way I hadn't anticipated. I really can't explain it any better than that as I wouldn't want any spoilers. You really have to read that very moving line for yourself and let yourself ponder it for awhile.

So, Counterfeit Faith, it was a great read and well worth the time spent within its pages. Now that I have read two of the three Hidden Hearts Of The Gilded Age titles I am really going to have to go back and read the second book. Once you get a taste of Crystal Caudill's first-rate fiction you won't want to miss a single one...

My Review

Wonderland as it should be...

As I have said before, this is what Wonderland was meant to be. The old familiar elements are there in Lost In Wonderland – in addition to some from the ever classic Little Red Riding Hood – but Tabitha Bouldin has given them a shiny new coat of gears and gadgets and flying machines. Those things and more kept this second Beyond Wonderland book moving at a fast clip and me turning those pages even faster...

I read late into the night, or rather into the early morning hours, only putting the book down when I couldn't stay awake any longer and as soon as I woke up I was back into it. The story was captivating and excited the imagination in all of its fantastical Steampunk glory. Every minute with Alice, Hatter, Scarlett, Faolin, and a remarkable cat that I simply fell in love with, was an adventure that I thoroughly enjoyed.

There wasn't a single thing to not like about Lost In Wonderland – except that despite the 300+ pages it ended all too soon. How am I supposed to wait for Tabitha Bouldin's next Beyond Wonderland novel? I just know that it won't be easy...

Writing Lost in Wonderland was such a wonderful creative outlet for my imagination. After writing Madness in Wonderland, I knew I wasn’t ready to let these characters go. They were anxious for new challenges and new adventures that allowed them to explore more of the world they’d just freed.

Of course, new characters were a must, and Scarlett stepped right up to have her story told.

While Madness in Wonderland is an Alice in Wonderland and Frankenstein mashup, for Lost in Wonderland, I went with a Through the Looking Glass and Red Riding Hood mashup that gave a deeper well of storytelling for Wonderland and brought all sorts of new creatures into the mix.

Alice and Hatter face new obstacles in their journey, and Scarlett is not one to be left behind. Especially when he has her loyal guard Faolan by her side.

Prepare to set sail across a new Wonderland.

Tabitha Bouldin

Tabitha Bouldin is a student at Southern New Hampshire University, where she is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s in Creative Writing. My Review

Can she survive in a world that despises her?

Sci-fi, not my genre. Dystopian, also not my genre. Enhanced, exactly my kind of read. I was totally absorbed by Urban's slightly familiar and sometimes frightening world of AI and genetic engineering of a hundred years from now.

There is no mistaking that Candace Kade is a master at vividly painting a complete sci-fi world using words instead of a brush. That skill is put on full Technicolor display in this first The Hybrid novel and there is no escaping the pull of the pages that lead you deeper in New Beijing and a world that may be closer than we want to think.

Enhanced is definitely aimed at a YA audience but this adult reader couldn't put it down. Urban's struggle to fit in, to be understood, is something that transcends age and country of origin. We've all felt less than and Candace Kade's young heroine embodies those feelings in a way that makes her much more relatable.

As you can tell, I enjoyed reading book 1 in The Hybrid series. It was entertaining, thought provoking, sometimes a little eerily plausible, and left me anxiously awaiting the next book...

Have you ever felt like you don’t belong?

It could be something as small as showing up at a party alone to something bigger like moving to a new city.
In ENHANCED, Urban also feels like she doesn’t belong. In New Beijing in the year 2124, everyone has amazing genetic enhancements given to them through CRISPR gene-editing technology.

Everyone, except Urban.

New Beijing is full of humans with breath-taking DNA. Inceptors with brain enhancements allowing them to read micro facial expressions, Supers who can withstand hard hits and extreme temperatures, Aquas able to breathe underwater, and more. There are eight main gene pools, and Urban doesn’t belong in any of them.

Instead, Urban’s born a Natural, without genetic enhancements, and secretly adopted into New Beijing. She’s forced to hide her genetic roots to protect her family, and pretends to be something she’s not--enhanced.

Urban’s story is personal to me.

As a Third Culture Kid, I’ve spent most of my life straddling two worlds and, trying to fit into places I felt I didn’t belong. At the age of four, my family moved from Ohio to China. I spent my childhood as the only foreign kid at my Chinese schools, neighborhood, and sports teams.

Since then, I’ve often returned to China. I was actually living and working there while writing ENHANCED.

Despite the frequent trips, I didn’t feel “American enough” or “Chinese enough” growing up. Maybe it’s because I botched most American sayings. Maybe it’s because no matter how good my Mandarin was, people looked at my white skin and assumed I didn’t belong in China.

It’s taken me years to come to peace with this.

Urban struggles with something similar. She must balance the Enhanced and Natural worlds all while trying to keep her web of lies from tangling and tripping her up. Which, of course, gets harder when she’s selected as the next AI Games contestant.

When I wrote this book, I was living in Beijing and going through one of the hardest seasons in my life. I had never felt so lonely. There was a song that brought me great comfort during this time. The chorus goes:

“God only knows what you’ve been through,
God only knows what they say about you,
God only knows the real you,
There’s a kind of love that God only knows.”
-For King and Country.

I played that song on repeat while writing Enhanced. It reminded me that God sees us and knows us intimately. With him, we are never truly alone.

I wrote this book for anyone who feels like they slip between the cracks of society—like they don’t belong. My hope is that you feel seen and understood.

My Review

His only son lead to HIS only Son...

I have long been fascinated by the story of Abraham, ever since those days in Sunday School before I could read and later as I read the book of Genesis for myself multiple times over. By faith Abraham left everything he knew for an unknown future, he stumbles and makes mistakes over and over again, he is asked to make the hardest sacrifice, and he became the father of nations that still exist 4,000 years later.

I will come right out and say that I was impressed by this film. Its budget is minuscule but the movie is not. The message is powerful, the story is emotionally moving, and the quality is pleasantly surprising. I really appreciated the way they laid out the story as a man makes the hardest journey imaginable and he reflects on the past and what has brought them to this point. Each memory ties into that part of the journey and it is what captures the mind and heart of the viewer.

The image that really caught me in this film, spoke to me the most, was the scene where Abraham pours out his heart to God but there is no answer to his pleas. Abraham walks away and doesn't see God standing right there. If he had only turned around... Do we not do exactly the same...?

His Only Son is one of those movies that you can take your family to, recommended for older children as it is rated PG-13, and each person will take something different away from it. It's a movie that is beautiful in its imperfections and it's a story filled with truths that will not and should not be soon forgotten...

If I wasn't already a diehard Jen Turano fan the title of this newest series, The Matchmakers, would have intrigued me enough to check it out and A Match In The Making would have sold me on it.

A Match In The Making has all of the charm and humor that I've come to expect from Jen Turano. Her historical romantic comedy never fails to be a cut above the rest and this start to her new The Matchmakers series is proving that to be as true as ever. Each story and its main characters are unique but the hilarious hijinks and romantic sparks are there and they are what keeps me coming back for each new story.

A Match In The Making was a completely delightful read. By turns Jen Turano had me laughing out loud and wanting to drop a frog onto the laps of those snooty society ladies. But, oh, some of the antics of the other characters more than made up for my inability to reach through a fictional book. Let's just say that you should never yell “Rat!” while everyone is dressed up in their Sunday best... At any rate I sincerely enjoyed the inaugural The Matchmakers novel and I am highly anticipating the next book in the series...

My Review

Winning means life or death...

Over the last three or four months I have been reading a lot of fantasy – from fairytale retellings to dystopian and even a touch of Steampunk. Maybe it's and escape from the world continuing to be turned upside down, maybe it's the need for the good guys to win despite all odds, and maybe it's just love of a good story...

The Whisperer's Wish started out a little slow for me, but, oh, once it got started... Boy, did it! It may be a little under 300 pages but there was no way I was putting it down. I totally gave up on the “just one more chapter” line and simply went with it wherever Janilise Lloyd was taking me.

Janilise Lloyd's worldbuilding is excellent in The Whisperer's Wish. The blend of familiar and fantastical is spot on and it completely captivates you and draws you even farther into the story. And what a vividly painted story it is! The diversity in landscape, peoples, and creatures – plus the Pentax itself – is imaginative and sparks the imagination at the same time.

The Whisperer's Wish is definitely aimed at a YA audience but I can tell you from personal experience that this thirty-something adult enjoyed just as much as she would have as a tween or teen. My Review

Sometimes the present mirrors the past...

I love a good mystery and I love history. I also enjoy dual timeline stories and books set in the 1920s. So, what happens when you blend all of those elements into a single book? Well, you get Rachel Scott McDaniel's last novel...

I'll be honest right at the start, In Spotlight And Shadow has got to be one of my favorite books in the Doors To The Past series. It had just the right balance of mystery/intrigue and heartfelt emotion as Rachel Scott McDaniel skillfully wove the layers of past and present together. It also had the most spectacular historical building as the common denominator between the dual timelines. But what really captured my attention, aside from the careful unveiling of decades of secrets, was the parallel struggles of the two girls as they must face their own fears and insecurities – and pain from the past.

I quite enjoyed In Spotlight And Shadow and this 11th Doors To The Past novel really kept me flipping those pages. While I did guess the thief's identity, there were quite a few secrets and motivations that flat out surprised me along the way. This book was the perfect way to spend a lazy winter day...

HISTORY OF THE LOEW’S PENN/HEINZ HALL THEATER

The Loew’s Penn theater in Pittsburgh opened its doors on September 6, 1927. Thousands of Pittsburghians crammed the streets hoping to enter. Those who were fortunate to claim a seat gasped at the grandeur of what that has been billed the ‘Temple of Cinema.’ The new hotspot in the Steel City was regarded as the most magnificent theater between New York and Chicago.

The Loew’s Penn was five stories high and could seat over 3,000 guests. The grand lobby had a 50-foot-high vaulted Venetian ceiling, gilded Corinthian columns, and two spectacular chandeliers. The crystal for the chandeliers was imported from Vienna. From silk drapes to artwork by Renaissance masters to Italian marble staircases the theater seemed more like a museum than a cinema palace. As for the entertainment, the night began with a live stage show followed by a silent film feature.

Attendance averaged around 60,000 theatergoers a week. And with an admission charge of $.50, the theater made around $30,000 a week. Which was a substantial fortune during the 1920s. The theater hosted live stage shows and they also brought in national acts including Paul Whiteman and the Rhtyhm Boys featuring Bing Crosby. Also Buster Keaton and Eddie Cantor graced the stage.

Over the years, the allure of the Loew’s Penn faded, and the theater fell into disrepair, finally shutting its doors in 1968. The Howard Heinz Endowment purchased the building, saving it from demolition. After a 16-month renovation that had cost over $11 million, the doors opened yet again under the new name of Heinz Hall. The plush red carpet is bold and beautiful, but also a subtle nod to … you guessed it … Heinz Ketchup. The grand lobby features the original marble flooring as well as the two 15-foot chandeliers. The main auditorium seats 2,661 guests. Heinz Hall is now the home to the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra it also hosts concerts and Broadway touring companies.

My Review

New dangers arise for the Lightraider cadets...

I've been on a real fantasy kick lately so the release of this second Lightraider Academy novel couldn't have been more perfect timing. After being on tenterhooks for the last year or so I finally got to dive into Bear Knight to find some answers to that cliffhanger James R. Hannibal left me on at the end of book one.

I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised to find that I liked Bear Knight even more than its predecessor. It was like James R. Hannibal had slipped into just the right groove and had taken the Lightraider Academy tale to new heights – not to mention in a few unexpected directions.

One of the things that I really appreciate about the Lightraider Academy series – and Bear Knight in particular – is that, while it is obviously an allegory, James R. Hannibal has not sacrificed the 'fantasy' aspect of the story. It is a fantasy adventure story through and through with a noticeable nod to spiritual warfare and the Christian life.

If you enjoy fantasy yourself or you have teens – boys or girls alike – Lightraider Academy is a great series to try out. Do make sure that you read the first book before you read Bear Knight. The only problem you'll have with it is the same one that I do...having to wait for James R. Hannibal to bring some more answers in the next book in the series...

Sireth held up a palm to stop Aaron’s next swings and inspected their work, then waved. “Swap sides. We must keep the cuts even, and yours are not quite as deep.”

Not quite as deep was a generous evaluation, and Aaron knew it, but this did not deter his next question. Chopping trees was one thing. Fighting was quite another. “Are you not concerned about keeping up with the younger watchmen in training and combat?”

“Older. Younger. My age and yours are not so different when you consider eternity. And as to combat”—the axe spun in each of Sireth’s hands before he landed his next blow—“I have some training. You forget, most in my generation had not yet come of age when the Assembly disbanded the Order. Many of us had planned to join—had played and practiced at it from the day we could hold a wooden sword. We spent our strongest years still practicing, in hopes it would reopen.”

“But it didn’t. Not until you had households and children of your own—grown children, at that.”

“I’m well aware.”

Right. His children. “When did your sehna and behlna take on the initiate’s quest?”
“The very first class.”

The power went out of Aaron’s swing. Sireth Yar. Teegan and Tiran. How had he failed to put those names together? “They helped close the dragon’s portal. They stopped the invasion.”

“For now.”

“I take it you share the Order’s concern. If the dragons can open one portal, they can open others.”

Sireth shot a look at Aaron’s idle axe, and did not answer until Aaron had taken the cue and started chopping again. “That is why we are here, is it not? Last year, one dragon moved ore creatures and goblins to our side of the barrier. A host of dragons might send an army. The Lightraider Order believes that is their plan. My own sehna and behlna saw the preparations.”

An army. The preparations. Aaron let the words settle into his thoughts. He’d come to the barrier for adventure and because the old men of his village had spoken of honor and need. But had he truly considered the cost of his calling? Looking north, he pictured orcs, trolls, and all manner of dragon corruptions rushing down the slopes.

“You all right?”

“Hm? Oh yes.” Aaron resumed his swings. “Do you worry? About your sehna and behlna, I mean.” He looked northeast toward the Order’s fortress at Ras Telesar. “Up there, at the academy.”

“They’re in the Maker’s hands.” Sireth raised two fingers to signal Aaron to still his axe. “Ras Telesar may be higher up the barrier, but it’s still here, in Keledev, under the Rescuer’s protection.”

With a sharp crack, the trunk gave. Aaron found himself yanked over to Sireth’s side. The heaviest part of the pine smashed down right where he’d been standing. Sireth released him and patted his chest. “I’d say my children are as safe as you are.”

I am probably a little dark in my opinion but I enjoy serial killer stories. Well, at least Christian fiction style ones, anyway. But, oh, was Critical Threat a good one! I've enjoyed all of Lynette Eason's Extreme Measures books but this one was probably my favorite.

I was kept guessing, some of them proved to be correct and some not so much, all the way through. Lynette Eason is master at twists and turns and little surprises and that certainly proves true with Critical Threat.

It was easy to get caught up in Grace and Sam's story. Both characters are likable and interesting. They both come with their own baggage, mostly of the family variety, but they are trying work their way through it in a healthy way. However, when you are facing a Critical Threat in the form a serial killer who is hot on your tail, well, you might have to go to Extreme Measures for those you love...

Extreme Measures has proven to be one of Lynette Eason's best series, certainly of the ones that I've read. I have looked forward to each release and they've all proven to be as good as or even better than the one before. You really won't want to miss a one...

Wow! Susan May Warren sure knows how to finish a series with a bang! Or should I say in a hail of bullets and possibly even more dangerous weaponry? I have been hooked on the Sky King Ranch series from start to finish and Sundown certainly lived up to the expectations I had from the other books.

I just had to know where Susan May Warren was taking Colt and Tae next as they, along with the rest of the Sky King Ranch characters and some familiar faces, make wild attempt to save the world from some very determined evil people. Who could ask for more in a good book...?

Just Read Review Tour - The Broken Crown & The Desolate Reign by Amory Cannon

My Review

Will she lose herself as she competes for a prince?

Over the last few years I have been discovering all of the wonderful YA fiction that I wish had been available to me back when I was teen. Now that it is available I am enjoying it anyway as an adult. The Broken Crown is the first book in a series that is part princess story, part fantasy adventure, a possible touch of dystopian, and a dash of what seemed like allegory.

While this first The Narrow Gate novel got off to a touch of a slow start for me, it didn't stay that way for very long at all. Oh no, it didn't take long before I was totally immersed in Emilia's first person world of danger and palace intrigue. Who knew a competition of princesses could be so hostile and volatile?!

I was pleasantly surprised as read by the detailed world with its peoples and customs that Amory Cannon brought so vividly to life. The mix of fantasy and familiar made it all the more fascinating.

The Broken Crown was an excellent read whether you are YA or old enough to be the mother of one. The Narrow Gate series has started well with this first book from Amory Cannon and it bodes well for the forthcoming titles...

Will she trade her sword for a crown?

Picking up where the previous The Narrow Gate novel left off, The Desolate Reign dives right back into the drama and intrigue as Emilia has to make some difficult decisions on whether she will claim her crown, step forward to take up the Insurgo cause, and who will sit on the throne next to her.

Honestly, as much as I enjoyed The Broken Crown, I enjoyed The Desolate Reign even more. Amory Cannon has really upped her game with her second The Narrow Gate book. The stakes have gotten higher and the consequences greater. Of course, all of that means a book that is pretty hard to put down. OK, closer to impossible...

Once again Amory Cannon has brought her world to life in vivid detail through Emilia's first person POV. While, some people don't care for that particular POV, I actually like it when it is done right. And Amory Cannon has done it very well in her Narrow Gate books. In some ways it was somewhat reminiscent of stories from authors like Melanie Cellier and Camille Peters – but with a much stronger and more overt Christian message.

The only problem I had with The Desolate Reign was that it ended on a real cliffhanger and now I have to waaaiiit, and very impatiently I might add, to find out what happens...

My Review

This was not the path she wanted to travel...

I've been looking forward to Dream Of Kings with great eagerness for months now. I got hooked on Sharon Hinck's vivid fantasy with her Dancing Realms series so I knew this book would be good...

What I expected was another well-written and engrossing tale with compelling characters, exquisite world-building, and skilled storytelling that holds you captive from start to finish. And I got precisely that...However, what I didn't expect was a loose retelling of the Biblical story of Joseph. I actually wasn't terribly far into the story before that fact started dawning on me so the majority of the tale was spent anticipating what angle Sharon Hinck would take as her Joseph just happens to be a girl...There was no doubt in my mind that the interweaving of Joseph's story within a fantasy setting would be successful. It would be intriguing and entertaining and still encourage a person's faith.

If there is one thing that drives Dream Of Kings it's faith, even when things look their worst and there is nothing but darkness in sight. When we don't understand why and God has placed us in a place or position that seemingly makes no sense. Those moments are when trust and faith are most precious.

I loved Dream Of Kings. It was a wonderful story set in a fantasy realm of diverse peoples, customs, and places. I also loved that the heroine of the story and her hero were a tad older than in her previous series. It was so much fun to read a fantasy story that had everything I've come to love about the genre but where the heroine is not high school age. Sharon Hinck has a real winner with this story and as it is a standalone I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to any fellow Christian/clean fantasy fan whether you are new to the author or well acquainted...

Sharon Hinck

Sharon Hinck writes “stories for the hero in all of us,” novels praised for their strong spiritual themes, emotional resonance, and imaginative blend of genres. She earned an MA in Communication (with a major in theatre and thesis in dance) from Regent University and spent ten years as the artistic director of a Christian dance company. That ministry included three short-term mission trips to Hong Kong to teach and choreograph for a YWAM dance/evangelism team. She taught classical ballet and liturgical dance for twenty years, and led workshops on dance in worship. She’s been a church youth worker, a dancer/choreographer, a church organist, a homeschool mom, and an adjunct professor of Creative Writing for MFA students.

One day she’ll figure out what to be when she grows up. When she’s not wrestling with words, she enjoys speaking at
churches and conferences and has taught at Minnesota Christian Writer’s Guild, the national conference of the American
Christian Fiction Writers, and Realm Makers. A wife, mom of four, and grandmother of three, she lives in Minnesota and

Driving Force

Can they figure it all out in time?

I will start right up front by making a confession. I read the second Elite Guardians Collection book before reading Driving Force. There. I said it! It was just one of those things where I didn't get my hands on book one first and I simply read them out of order. But, you know, it happened to work out just fine and I don't feel like I cheated myself too badly.

Kate Angelo is a brand new to me author but I can tell you that she has filled Lynette Eason's shoes quite nicely in this first book in the new multi-author spin-off based on the original Elite Guardians series. And, I think I'll make a second little confession here, I actually like this second series a lot more than the original.

I originally wanted to read Driving Force simply because it was part of the Elite Guardians Collection series and I had no idea that in its pages I would 'meet' one of the coolest and impressive military working dogs that I've read in Christian fiction. He really is the Boss! Okay, okay, Christina and Grey are pretty cool too.

Kate Angelo did an excellent job with this book. It was edge-of-your-seat reading and each layer of the suspense angle was well crafted – without giving too much away too soon – as everything built up toward the final showdown with The Scavenger. I did have my suspicions as to who was behind it all but you'll have to read the story for yourself to find out more. And I do recommend diving into both this book and the rest of the series...

Impending Strike*

It's a race against time to remember...what?

If a person is going to start a series out of order it's always best to start with a book as good as Impending Strike. Yeah, yeah, I know this is the second Elite Guardians Collection novel but I'm a fan of Sami A. Abrams' Love Inspired Suspense, so, what the hey...

While it probably would have made more sense if I'd started with the first book in the series, I was still able to get into the swing of things pretty quickly. And, anyway, this series also just happens to be a spinoff from Lynette Eason's Elite Guardians, of which I have only read the first book years ago when it was first released. But it was Sami A. Abrams' characters that I really fell in love with. Lizzie and Charlie were the perfect couple for this story of murder and mayhem. Both are so tough and yet vulnerable – and both are hiding secrets from their past that are affecting any chance at a future together. It was also kind fun watching the bodyguard guarding the...bodyguard...

Impending Strike is most definitely a romantic suspense novel. It had everything my intrigue and pandemonium loving heart could ask for and I was kept on the edge of my seat all the way through the second Elite Guardians Collection book. This was one of those books that I didn't want to put down and because I didn't really have to, well, I just didn't...

I really enjoyed Impending Strike, Sami A. Abrams' riveting addition to the Elite Guardians Collection series. After finishing it I am definitely going to have to read the first book as well as look forward to the next one...

Defending Honor

Has he really changed? Can she?

I've known from the start of the Elite Guardians Collection series that Laila was going to get quite the story, any girl that is ex-Mossad has got to have something pretty impressive. New-to-me author Kelly Underwood didn't disappoint in any way, shape or form! Defending Honor was some seriously edge-of-your-seat stuff in addition to riveting and intense!

There was never a dull or quiet moment in Defending Honor, in either the suspense or romance departments. In fact, this third Elite Guardians Collection novel even had some thriller-ish scenes that got my heart pumping and my fingers turning those pages so fast I think I smelled smoke – OK, maybe that was from fire and explosions in the story, but still, you get my point...

Kelly Underwood did an excellent job as Defending Honor was one of those books that really kept me guessing. There were times when I had no clue who the mastermind could possibly be, and yet there was a niggling suspicion that kept popping up from the back of my mind. This, this is exactly why I have been enjoying the Elite Guardians Collection series so much!

This book appears to be Kelly Underwood's debut and I must say that I was quite impressed. Defending Honor fits in seamlessly with the the rest of the Elite Guardians Collection and it more than holds its own within the realm of Christian romantic suspense. I will most definitely be keeping my eye on Kelly Underwood as time goes on because, based on this book alone one can expect some really good reading from her.

Shannon Redmon's previous Love Inspired Suspense novel, Cave Of Secrets, was one of my favorite debut novels from that line ever. Turns out Secrets Left Behind was every bit as good as the first book and it is easily in my top ten list of books from that imprint read this year!

One of the best parts of reading a Love Inspired Suspense novel is trying to solve the mystery/crime(s). Sometimes I figure things out early on and sometimes I'm surprised at the end, with Secrets Left Behind it was a little of both. Shannon Redmon did a wonderful job as she connected the seemingly disparate threads of drug running, a possible murder cover-up, kidnapping, and betrayal, weaving them into a gritty fast-paced 220+ page tale that was impossible to put down.

This Book received a 4.5 Bark rating.

Quite obviously I really enjoyed Secrets Left Behind and it was a real page-turner that kept me intrigued from start to finish. Needless to say, I feel that Shannon Redmon is an author to watch and I will be most anxiously anticipating reading more from her in the future...
