My Review
Sometimes you just need to take The Mulligan...
Paul McAllister is convinced that he has the world by the tail. Sure, his family is a mess and he's a jerk to the little guys out there, but, hey, business is going great and that's what's most important, right? With a set of golf clubs and wearing a bowtie the Old Pro just might show him a little truth...the real question is if it will be in time? Golf isn't my thing but after seeing and enjoying Seven Days In Utopia a number of years ago and then reading the blurb for The Mulligan film I thought it sounded pretty good. I also thought my parents would get a kick out of seeing Pat Boone in the wise old sage role as they grew up during the height of his popularity. You know, what was the funniest thing? I'm the one who liked his character the best...He got the best one-liners and I loved his jaunty golf outfits, oh, and then there were his driving skills... Everyone needs a Mulligan, not just once, but many times throughout their lives. While it may not be as dramatic as the fictional Paul McAllister's, or it may be even more so, those second chances seasoned with a little bit of Grace may make all of the difference in the world... The Mulligan was an enjoyable movie all around. It's family friendly and there is a little wisdom in there for everyone. My parents and I watched it together and, though none of us are golfers, it had us engaged and enjoying the story. The humorous and poignant moments blended together into a good movie that any of us would watch again. The Mulligan was definitely one of those that I would pick up on DVD so I COULD watch it again... Tell Tale Book Reviews gives The Mulligan a 4.5 Bark rating.

VeggieTales: Twas The Night Before Easter
VeggieTales has been around since I was a kid and going on three generations have been learning important lessons about faith and life through the entertaining animated antics and songs of an entire garden of vegetables. This time around in Twas The Night Before Easter the edible crew learn that helping people should be more about meeting their needs than a big in-your-face production and that Easter is more than bunnies, jellybeans, crème eggs, and pastel baskets.
Over the years I've watched more VeggieTales as an adult than I did as a kid. My appreciation for the animation, fun stories, and crazy song lyrics has only grown. So, I just couldn't resist this cute Easter tale featuring a snow storm, a robot bunny, some funny jokes about all of the TV music competitions, and yes, was that really Bob the Tomato sporting a stereotypical pastor/priest haircut? As a matter of fact...If you are up for a little family fun this season with some catchy tunes try Twas The Night Before Easter...

The Passion: A Brickfilm
To be completely honest, I never intended on ever watching The Passion because my imagination is fertile enough just reading the Biblical accounts and I knew that the film would be too intense for me personally. However, when I was scrolling through Pure Flix's selection of Easter movies I found something a little unexpected and I was intrigued enough by The Passion: A Brickfilm that I was willing to check it out.
The Passion: A Brickfilm was one of the most imaginative short films that I've ever seen. The clever use of outdoor tableau style scenes featuring Lego® characters, enhanced by touches of animation, and the utilization of sound effects and background music was pretty impressive. Kudos to Brickfilm for making a movie about the Resurrection, one that elicits strong emotion without traumatization, that families can sit down and watch together...

However will the guys survive...LOL!
Where was this show when I used to babysit! Animation has never been my thing, even as a kid, but when I did some full-time babysitting a few, OK more like several, years ago and saw the garbage on TV that passed as kids entertainment I was pretty disgusted. It was then that I began to see the value of good wholesome Christian-based cartoons to replace the junk on TV. I seriously wish A Show About Anthem Lights had existed back then as I suspect I would have watched it with the kiddos I was keeping an eye on. Smash That Like Button! Is the twelfth episode of A Show About Anthem Lights and I think this one may be my favorite so far. It features all of the fun music and wonderful show is known for as well as the reappearance of one of my favorite characters, the ever wise Sister Esther Georgia Mabel. I really had a chuckle at this snippet of today's obsession vlogging every aspect of life and keeping follower counts up. Plus there just might have been an important lesson or two hidden in the rather insane amount of hair product... Seriously, if you have kids or grandkids or you babysit, turn off the TV and turn on this well-made and entertaining show. The episodes are short and easy to watch and you just might find yourself watching along with A Show About Anthem Lights... Tell Tale Book Reviews gives A Show About Anthem Lights - episode 12 Smash That Like Button! a 4 Bark rating.

We could all use a good laugh right now, and Church People is a movie
your whole family can LOL to from the comfort of your own home!
Weary from the showiness and materialism that has overtaken his ministry efforts, Guy (Ramsey) goes on a journey to get back in touch with the heart of ministry and be a real role model to his youth group kids. He makes the difficult decision to cut short his speaking tour managed by his money-focused agent (Faison) after realizing that his reputation has become more fame based than Gospel-driven.
But when Guy attempts to return to regular youth ministry, he is thrust into the throes of dissuading the youth group from performing a strange and potentially blasphemous stunt for the upcoming Easter service, starring a young, zealous new Believer, Blaise. In attempting to manage his youth group while navigating an unexpected love interest in the Senior Pastor’s daughter (Cahill) and being a new father to his grown daughter (Manfredi), Guy ultimately rediscovers and puts on a powerful presentation of why we all need to put our hope in Jesus and not in ourselves.

Going to church has never been quite so fun(ny)!
Whether you are a longtime church member, were raised in the church like I was, or you are a brand spanking newly minted church member, have I got the movie for you! Church People is a comedy film for Christians, by Christians, and about Christians. It's funny, it's surprising, and the ending is both powerful and perfect. Oh, and that very last line in the movie is priceless! This movie pokes gentle fun at our churchy idiosyncrasies, our foibles, our sanctimoniousness, and even our hypocritical tendencies. There is something in Church People that will prick every Christian conscience even as you laughing because you recognize yourself on the screen. It's one of the most interesting mixings of laugh-out-loud humor and convicting truth-telling that I've seen in a newer movie. This was actually my second time around watching Church People and I really got the chance to sit back and let the humor and truth just wash over me. I can tell you that it's one of those movies that you enjoy while watching but you also think about it after the TV has been turned off. One of the other things that I liked about the film was that they chose to film it in a real church. The authenticity and relatability that it brought to the viewing experience was genius. The music was also well chosen, didn't drown out the dialog, and just sounded good. Oh, and a check out the cameo appearance by a gentleman known for a certain fluffy rectangular object on your bed. So, do not expect an epic movie, but, do expect to laugh at yourself and be needled with a little truth. Church People is a good movie that all church people should watch... The past just caught up....
You ever notice how sometimes just when things are beginning look up they all come crashing down? In the aptly named Sons Of Thunder: Redemption episode 5 Loss Of Trust, exciting preparations for the rodeo that will hopefully save the ranch go awry when the truth about Jacob and Logan comes out in front of everyone, issues with the proper permits for the rodeo arise, and a simple mistake may have dire consequences on more than one member of the Gibson family. Sons Of Thunder: Redemption is a little bit different from its predecessor, for one thing it's more of a continuity series, but it is every bit as good. My family and I have been saving up a couple of episodes to watch at a time because those mean ol' cliffhangers get us every time. We did that with episode 5 Loss Of Trust and the previous episode so now I have to wait the interminably long week for episode 6 so I can get at least a few answers. And just as things were heating up as the Devil's Hand finally find out where Jacob has gone to... The family ranch setting has been an interesting switch for this show and one that has been growing on me as the season progresses. Loss Of Trust amps up the tension with both the rodeo and biker gang threads and it sure has my family curious what will happen next. The episode also had one of my favorite quotes so far, “'Remember, I told you we don't call 911 around here.” Now to wait.....wait.....wait..... Tell Tale Book Reviews gives Sons Of Thunder: Redemption episode 5 Loss Of Trust a 4 Bark rating.

Queen Latifah and Dennis Quaid star in this beloved tale based on the New York Times best-selling book by Kate DiCamillo. When 12-year-old Rob Horton (Christian Convery) discovers a caged tiger in the woods near his home, his imagination runs wild and life begins to change in the most unexpected ways. With the help of a wise and mysterious maid, Willie May (Queen Latifah) and the stubborn new girl in school (Madalen Mills), he navigates through childhood memories, heartache, and wondrous adventures in this heartwarming adaptation.
My Review
Sometimes you have to let the tiger rise...
Life can sometimes be messy and hard and no two people deal with things the same way. Some bury it all inside. Some lash out in anger. Some retreat from life. All are in cages not made with bars. And if not allowed to process their grief that pain can physically manifest itself in unexpected ways. This is the tough stuff that two 12-year-old kids must face with the help of a wise hotel maid who learned that wisdom the hard way. I'll admit that when I decided to watch The Tiger Rising I had never heard of Kate DiCamillo's novel that was the basis for the film. I was, however, familiar with Because Of Winn Dixie (both film and book) so I had an idea of what I might expect. And true to form the story was both bitter and sweet and teaches some life lessons that are applicable for all ages. I was quite impressed by the quality of The Tiger Rising film production. The children who play Rob and Sistine were very well chosen. Christian Convery had the dreamy, vague, miles away persona down to a T. And Madalen Mills was a real master with her facial expressions, particularly her annoyed with the world stare that she uses quite often to challenge those around her. The adults also filled their roles very well. But, I'm gonna tell you that what really captured my appreciation was the way the production company handled Rob's imagination and the how it sprang to life in the most surprising ways. Another thing I sincerely liked was the fact that they chose to only use CGI when needed with the tiger, yes, the tiger was quite obviously very real in many of its scenes. With the unnecessary overuse of CGI these days it was like a breath of fresh air, in my opinion. In a nutshell The Tiger Rising is a bittersweet film made for and meant to be watched by families. There are words of wisdom for everyone no matter what age they are. And, even though there are moments that will make you want to cry, joy can triumph in the end as each of us finally let our own tiger rise... Tell Tale Book Reviews gives The Tiger Rising a 4 Bark rating.

Based on the bestselling novel by Francine Rivers, REDEEMING LOVE is a powerful story of relentless love and perseverance as a young couple’s relationship clashes with the harsh realities of the California Gold Rush of 1850. Angel expects only pain from those around her. Sold into prostitution as a child, Angel survives with hatred towards herself and the men that use her. She meets Michael Hosea, a farmer who believes God wants Angel to be his wife. Dire circumstances force Angel to accept his proposal, but when Michael defies her bitter expectations, her wounded heart begins to mend. As Angel encounters a love unlike anything she ever experienced, feelings of unworthiness and shame cause her to run from a life she doesn’t think she deserves. As Michael sets out to find her, Angel discovers there is no brokenness that love can’t heal. Go see Redeeming Love in theaters starting January 21st! My Review I'm sitting here now a few hours after watching the film version of a book that I read nearly 20 years ago as a teenager. Just as it was two decades ago, my mind is full and I can't help but think the enormity of what I just saw on the screen. I've thought of Redeeming Love many times over the years, parts of the story and the emotional response I had to them were hard to forget. As a teen I wrestled with what I had read on the printed page as my perceptions were rocked then precisely as they have been again by the same story. There was, and once again is, much more to this retelling of the Biblical account of Hosea than I could even begin unpack in a single review that isn't the size of a book itself. I'll be honest, Redeeming Love isn't easy to watch, it's not a light-hearted fluff piece in any way, shape or form. The story shines light on some of the darkest parts of humanity: child and adult sex trafficking, abuse, murder, emotional manipulation and coercion, suicide, betrayal in every way possible, and things even darker yet. It was hard to read and watch just how evil people can be to other people. But with great darkness comes the chance of great light and God is in the business of hope and redemption. I really don't care to descend into empty platitudes but of the messages in Redeeming Love one of the strongest is the value of every human life to God and that no matter what we have done or what has been done to us He can take every bit of our brokenness and make something new and beautiful. No one is out of His reach or beyond His love. As to the film itself, it was well done technically speaking. The scenery was gorgeous and the costuming wasn't bad at all. I particularly appreciated the range of facial expressions on the lead actress's face, they really set the emotional tone for many of the scenes. The thing that impressed me the most was how well they stuck to the original story. Of course, there were changes because this is film, but the overall points and spirit of the book were very well represented. I will be blunt here with a couple of cautionary notes. This is not a movie for children, the very nature of the story should be obvious why, and my personal recommendation would only be for much older teens and their parents. There is some violence and language, though nothing severe in comparison to many TV shows, but the sexual content is quite significant. Which brings me to my second caution, there is some content that sensitized people may find upsetting. There are reasons why many people will list Redeeming Love as their favorite novel, it's an emotional story that rends and shatters the heart before putting it back together with the message that is in its very title. This film is one of the rarities that lives up to the book upon which it is based and it brings the story to life in a completely different way. One thing that I would like to say in closing is that Christian movies have come a long way over the years and this is one of a new generation of films. To reach a new audience of jaded movie-goers they are edgier than ever before and are even more hard-hitting. In addition to everything I've already talked about Redeeming Love also raises awareness of human (sex) trafficking. There is more human trafficking now in the 21st century than any time in history. For those of us safe and untouched in our homes, films and books like Redeeming Love convict and demand that we ask ourselves what can we do, and more importantly will we, like Michael Hosea in the story, go to the lengths that God may ask of us? Combat vet Simon motorcycles across the country, working odd jobs, helping those God puts in his path, and trying to atone for past sins in a biker club. Coming Soon From PureFlix Sons Of Thunder: RedemptionMy Review It's time to ask the big question.... Have you ever had a tattooed biker dude the size of a small mountain walk up to you and ask in the gentlest of tones, “Do you know Jesus?” If so, you might have met Simon from Sons Of Thunder. OK, yes, I do know this show is fiction but it brings up one of the greatest points about Sons Of Thunder. God can redeem anyone, even people we would pass over without a second thought, and He can use anyone for His purpose no matter what they've done in the past. I sat down and watched the entire 7 episode season with various members of my family. Each of us took away something a little different and each of us like different characters and episodes. My favorite episode may or may not have had something to do with a poker game... Overall we liked the show and were quite interested to hear about the spinoff series, Sons Of Thunder: Redemption coming out this year. The show has a short season so it's pretty easy to watch more than one of the 30-40 minute episodes in one night. Sons Of Thunder consists of two threads, the current one with a different fairly disconnected storyline each episode, and the flashbacks to Simon's final days with the motorcycle gang as he meets a girl and tries to extricate himself from the darkness. This is a great show for Christian families, probably best for a little bit older kids and adults, that not only encourages faith even when it's tough but will also will entertain you through some pretty thought-provoking adventure plots. Don't miss any of these episodes of Sons Of Thunder... “Do you know Jesus?” Tell Tale Book Reviews gives Sons Of Thunder a 4 Bark rating. #SonsOfThunderMIN #MomentumInfluencerNetwork #PureFlix
Get ready to laugh and sing with the new animated series “A Show About Anthem Lights,” premiering exclusively on Pure Flix on January 12, 2021. AFFIRM Films, the studio behind the animated film “The Star,” has helped bring the vision of creator and director Rob Hawkins to life. The show is exactly what the title implies – an animated series depicting the Christian band, Anthem Lights, as they go about everyday activities navigating the ups and downs of life in a boyband ... all while singing about it! “This show, in many ways, is a love letter to our fans and we think they are going to appreciate it as much as we appreciate them,” said band member Caleb Grimm. “We think it’s authentically funny and the music and stories will appeal to a wide range of people who may not be familiar with our music … yet.” Who is Anthem Lights?Anthem Lights is an American Christian group formed in Nashville, Tennessee in 2007. The band started as a solo project for the vocalist Chad Graham. He and Alan Powell were writing music for the project when they thought the songs would be better performed by a group. They came together with vocalists Kyle Kupecky and Caleb Grimm and formed the band Yellow Cavalier releasing one self-titled EP in 2009 before changing the name to Anthem Lights. The group signed with the label Reunion Records and in 2011 released the self-titled EP Anthem Lights and the full studio album with the same name. The first track from the EP “Can’t Shut Up” reached number 42 on Billboard’s Christian Songs chart. Together the band released 7 studio albums, Anthem Lights, You Have My Heart, Escape, Hymns, Painted Skies, Hymns Vol. II, and Worship. They also released 3 EPs, 5 compilation albums, and 9 singles. The bands current members are Chad Graham on vocals, Caleb Grim on vocals, Spencer Kane on vocals, and Joey Stamper on vocals, piano, guitar, and drums. The Show ScheduleThe series will be released in volumes and will feature animated versions of the band members, Spencer Kane, Joseph Stamper, Caleb Grimm and Chad Graham. The first volume includes episodes 1 to 4 and releases on January 12. Volumes 2 to 5 will debut every other Wednesday. Check out the Sneak Peek Video & Website My Thoughts I'm actually brand new to the music of Anthem Lights but I am definitely very appreciative already. With songs like 'Outta My Mind', my favorite by the way, that skillfully pairs a catchy tune with great vocals and is topped off with a thoughtful and moving message, it's easy to see why they are so well liked. However, what really impressed me with Anthem Lights is their versatility and range of songs that they've done. From Christian pop to hymns sung a capella to inspiring patriotic music it seems like they have something for pretty much every mood. With my recent introduction to Anthem Lights and their music I'm now pretty curious about their upcoming animated series on Pureflix. From everything I've seen it sounds like it will be pretty good, but then I usually enjoy Pureflix's series, and I'm looking forward to checking it out when the first episode airs... #AnthemLightsMIN #MomentumInfluencerNetwork #PureFlix
American Underdog tells the inspirational true story of Kurt Warner (Zachary Levi from Shazam), who went from a stockboy at a grocery store to a two-time NFL MVP, Super Bowl champion, and Hall of Fame quarterback. The film centers on Warner’s unique story and years of challenges and setbacks that could have derailed his aspirations to become an NFL player – but just when his dreams seemed all but out of reach, it is only with the support of his wife, Brenda (Anna Paquin) and the encouragement of his family, coaches, and teammates that Warner perseveres and finds the strength to show the world the champion that he already is. American Underdog is an uplifting story that demonstrates that anything is possible when you have faith, family and determination.

My Review
When the going gets tough...get in the pocket...
It may seem a little strange for me to be reviewing a sports movie when my family has never really been into sports. But, that's not why I wanted to watch this movie at all. The title sums up what intrigued me about the film, American Underdog. Then I saw that it was based on a true story I was all in. And hey, who doesn't love Facing The Giants or The Mighty Ducks, even if they aren't sports fans? I'll admit that I was also curious to see Anna Paquin all grown up from her Fly Away Home days. Oh, gosh, have I seriously outed what age group I'm in by mentioning some of these movies that I obviously watched as a kid... Interestingly, American Underdog turned out to not be just a football movie but rather a story about not giving up even when the deck is stacked against you, it's about supporting the people you love and making sacrifices for them, and it's about overcoming and beating the odds. I watched this movie with my family and I think each of us took a little something different out of it. There was humor, romance, drama, and the best part was that it's a true story. Yeah, it may have gotten a little edgy in spots but so is real life and I liked the movie all the better for it. The decision to make the film more inspirational than overtly Christian was, I think, a good call and it opens the doors for more people to watch it. I for one, enjoyed having the chance to get into the story without a ton of soapboxing. American Underdog was a good movie to watch with the your family, particularly your older kids. As to the more technical aspects of the movie.... I was quite impressed. The filming was good and the actors were well chosen and I even found myself getting a little nostalgic for the 90s as I saw the old familiar technology and clothing and hairstyles... I also enjoyed how they mixed in some actual footage with a deft hand. All in all, American Underdog was pretty good movie that can easily be enjoyed by sports fans and not sports fans alike... Tell Tale Book Reviews gives American Underdog a 4 Bark rating.
