-From Amazon- Jake is tired of feeling like a loser. Failure at baseball, feeling like a wannabe at school and facing bullies like a weakling, that’s his life. He’s starting to wonder if things will ever change or if even God can fix his problems. It’s not until he comes across a rare nickel with an intriguing story that life really starts to look different. But will things get better? Or will Jake end up feeling like an even bigger loser than before? ISBN-13: 978-0692371480 Will Jake finally be a winner? The Nickle Nuisance is flat-out a fun book aimed at kids, but one that adults, like myself, can enjoy as well. In this day and age it's often harder and harder to find books that you will let your kids read that they actually WANT to read. Over the years I've read a number of juvenile books and this is the first one I've read with the illustrations actually embedded within the story itself. As an adult I thought the idea was pretty cool and I'm sure it's one that will catch kids' attention as well. Jake is such and uncool guy that he actually was cool, I truly enjoyed the story as seen through his perspective and told in his words. As an adult I found Veola Vazquez's portrayal of this 7th grader's often blunt speech quite funny sometimes and it took me back a decade and a half to my own days awkwardly trying to grow up. | This Book received a 4 Bark rating. |
