My Review
Wow, was this really the last of the Tales Of Faeraven series? I mean, I really wanted to see the villain finally get his, I've cheerfully hated him through three previous books and now this one, but I'm also sorry to say goodbye to friends both old and new. Many questions are answered, though I still had a couple when finished the book, as the tale comes full circle.
One of the things that I liked best about this book was that we finally get to learn a little more about some of the fae people who inhabit Janalyn Voigt's vivid storyworld. Like the previous books, DawnKing is a full-color and imaginative world filled with creatures and people of all kinds. The magical elements are well balanced with the medieval inspired setting and the faith aspect.
To me, DawnKing had the clearest Bible retelling of all the books. I knew from the beginning who Emmerich represented but it was most obvious in this final book. However, you still have a story that is entertaining, full of adventure and romance, but avoids being preachy.
Whether you have a child in need of some good reading, want to read the book(s) aloud to your family, or if you yourself enjoy fantasy tales, the Tales Of Faeraven have you covered. It's an excellent series and one that I would not hesitate to recommend.
With DawnKing being the end of a series I wonder where the talented pen of Janalyn Voigt may take us next...
Tell Tale Book Reviews gives DawnKing by Janalyn Voigt a 4.5 Bark rating.
