Interview with Jodie
Hannah’s Quest and the entire series have a common theme of prodigals. I didn’t originally intend for it to be the inspiration, but then God brought about a prodigal child in our own lives three years ago. It’s a path we’re still walking on.
I’m not positive, but I’m pretty sure it was about six months from start to finish.
I came to really enjoy and appreciate the historical genre as a child reading the Little House on the Prairie series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. I also wanted to include love stories in my writing, since God wrote the best love story of all time.
My favorite, is probably my hero’s grandmother, Anna Burkholder.
Where do I begin? My husband and I will be married 39 years come December. Even after all this time, he’s my best friend. Someone I love to spend time with each day. We have two sons in their 30s and seven grandchildren. Unfortunately, we don’t get to see any of them very often. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, walking, and knitting.
One interesting tidbit about me…I didn’t love history in school because I wasn’t good at memorizing dates for a test. But once I started researching stories throughout history, I fell in love with it. Whenever possible, I try to weave some of those throughout my stories. I’m especially enjoying the research for my upcoming book, Sarah’s Search.
More from Jodie
When I started writing the first book, Abigail’s Pursuit, quite a number of years ago, I never intended to create a series about prodigals, let alone experience the pain of it in my life… but God knew what the future held. While each of the books in this Time to Come Home Series revolves around the common theme of a prodigal, each of the tales is a stand-alone. My prayer is for those who have children who have wandered away, or perhaps were once prodigals themselves, or even others who enjoy Christian historical romance with strong spiritual themes—that each of these groups find encouragement through reading this series.
Hannah’s Quest was exciting to write as I incorporated information about one of the oldest continually run hardware stores in PA that is still operating to this day, even though it’s changed names various times through the years. I hope you’ll enjoy stepping back in time to a small town in south-central PA where faith and family are celebrated.
