Interview with Kirthana
I hope that when readers finish this book, they will take away a profound sense of inspiration, encouragement, and entertainment. Moreover, I aspire for them to believe that with God, all things are possible.
The Girl and Her Noble Steed" initially existed as a picture book, complete with 32 illustrations featuring a different animal. However, in 2023, just days before my planned publication date and during a prayerful moment, the Holy Spirit placed a new direction on my heart. It became clear that the project should transform into a chapter book with an entirely fresh storyline, with the main character's companion being a donkey.
I undertook a complete overhaul of the story, completing the plot and scene outline within a single day. Our remarkable illustrator, a truly talented individual, crafted a brand-new set of illustrations within a remarkable three-week span. My incredible editor also worked diligently, ensuring the project was ready within a mere 10 days. Remarkably, we had the entire project reimagined and ready to go in just one month.
I grew up in Chennai, India, with plenty of free time and a vivid imagination. As the oldest of three sisters in a media-oriented family known for its talented actors and producers, our dinners were filled with lively conversations around the table or in front of the TV in our separate rooms. My mother, a single parent, raised us, and it was through my aunt, our spiritual mother, that we discovered Jesus, and she helped raise us. I've loved the one and only cat, Google.
My school days were filled with laughter and mischief, especially with my best friend, whom I've known since kindergarten. In December 2014, I had a sleepless night of tears, fearing I might never get married, but by June 2015, I was joyfully married in a fairy-tale wedding. God's surprises are truly remarkable. After getting married, I had my first-ever live Christmas tree, and my favorite Disney fairy tale remains "Beauty and the Beast."
One of my proudest moments as an author was winning my first award for "The Girl and Her Noble Steed," a Christian fairy tale. When it comes to food, my two favorites are waffles and biryani. My husband and I recently purchased our first home, and we now share it with two adorable huskies, eagerly anticipating the blessings of parenthood as we trust in the Lord's plan.
I wish I had heeded God's correction and obeyed him sooner.
Be still, and know that I am God. Psalms 46:10. I feel like I am being called into a phase of praise and worship and waiting on God. letting go and letting God handle things for me.

More from Kirthana
For 13 years, I grappled with consistency and security in my previous job as a TV producer and content head. I felt a void in my life, a sense that something was missing. So, I turned to prayer and patiently waited for God to reveal His will for me. And He did just that, leading me to become a children’s author dedicated to writing Christian faith-based books that encourage and inspire young hearts, guiding them closer to Christ.
“The Girl and Her Noble Steed” emerged from my desire to create a book brimming with adventure and faith. Through this book, I hope to teach children that a miracle is just a prayer away and that nothing is impossible for those who love and believe in God. This knowledge was not readily available to me while I was growing up, and I don’t want any child to miss out on a relationship with Jesus.
Now, let me share a fun fact about the book. Just like the quirky words that fill the pages of “The Girl and Her Noble Steed,” I too have a penchant for using quirky words in my everyday life. It’s a small touch of my personality that adds an extra layer of charm to the stories I write.
So, what’s my goal? It’s simple. I aim to bring smiles to children’s faces while sowing the seeds of wonder and wisdom in their minds. Why, you may wonder? Once upon a time, I was a wide-eyed dreamer navigating the complexities of growing up. But then Jesus found me, and in His love, I discovered peace and comfort. Now, I’m on a mission to remind kids that they are truly amazing. I want every child to understand that they are special and important and that God’s love for them is boundless.
This is just the first book in a series, and I plan to release Book 2 just in time for Easter, continuing the journey of faith and inspiration for young readers.
