-From the back cover- Dandelions On The Wind When Maren Jensen took a job at Elsa Brantenberg's St. Charles, Missouri, farm, she never expected to call the place her home. As she grows to love Mrs. Brantenberg and her granddaughter, Gabi, Maren is transformed from a lonely mail-order bride-without-a-groom to a beloved member of the Brantenberg household. But when Gabi's father, Rutherford “Wooly” Wainwright, returns to the farm unexpectedly, everything changes for Maren, and she feels compelled to find another job. Are her choices in obedience to God, or is she running from His plan? Bending Toward The Sun Dedicated to her education and to helping her father in his general store, Emilie Heinrich is convinced she doesn't have time for love. But when a childhood friend returns to St. Charles, Missouri, after serving in the Civil War, his smile and charm capture Emilie's heart. Will she be forced to choose between honoring her father and a future with a husband and family of her own? Ripples Along The Shore Change is brewing in St. Charles. A group of brave souls are preparing to head west on the Boone's Lick Wagon Train, led by the mysterious and handsome Garrett Cowlishaw, who served as a Confederate soldier in the war that killed Caroline's husband. Despite her dislike for him, Caroline is tempted to join the wagon train and start fresh somewhere new, but when Mr. Cowlishaw forbids her – a single woman – to travel with them, will one man's prejudice destroy Caroline's hope for the future? Or will the ripples of God's love bring the answer she needs? | . . This Book earned a 4 Bark rating. . . Visit Mona's Website HERE |

Before long, fabric was almost impossible to obtain so women had to spin and weave before they could sew a bed covering together. Needless to say most of the quilts made for soldiers on either side were made with practical patterns and fabric and due to heavy use, very few have survived to this day. . . . . . . . . . . |

-From the back cover- Kat and Nell Sinclair are headed west – away from the manicured lawns of Maine to the boisterous, booming mining town of Cripple Creek, Colorado, to start new lives for themselves as mail-order brides. Aboard the train, romantic Nell carries a photo of her intended close to her heart and imagines an exciting and love-filled future, while her pragmatic sister, Kat, resigns herself to marriage as a duty, not a delight. But when the ladies disembark at the train depot, neither fiancé Patrick Maloney nor Judson Archer awaits them with open arms. The well-bred Sinclair sisters find themselves unexpectedly alone in the wild, frontier town – a place where fire threatens to reduce the buildings to rubble, the working women strut the streets, rogues will gamble for the shoes on one's feet, and God's grace is found among the most unlikely of folks. Two Sisters. Two missing misters. A Shocking welcome to the wild west that leaves both Kat and Nell Sinclair questioning their dreams and the hope for true love. A gorgeous cover that goes well with this fun and excellent read! I have only read one other book by Mona Hodgson, and though I really enjoyed it, it was a bit of a serious read. While Two Brides Too Many has some serious moments it also has some real lighthearted comedy. This is one book that I would love to see made into a movie, too bad Doris Day couldn't star in it. | . . The Author Married forty-one years to her leading man, Mona from Arizona lives in the Southwest where trees have arms instead of branches and salsa is a staple. When Mona Hodgson isn't writing or speaking, she's playing Wii games with her Arizona grandson, spending time with her mom, picnicking, texting her sisters, or chatting on Skype with her grandchildren in Africa. Mona Hodgson is the author of nearly 40 books, historical novels for adults and children's books. Her children's books include bestseller, Bedtime in the Southwest, six desert and princess Zonderkidz I Can Read books, Real Girls of the Bible: A 31-Day Devotional, and her six I Wonder books. Mona's writing credits also include several hundred articles, poems and short stories, which have appeared in 50 different publications. Mona is a speaker for women's groups, Christian women's retreats, book clubs and reading groups, schools, and conferences for writers and librarians. | The Book Though it means saying goodbye to the beloved friends and spiritual mentors of her St. Charles, Missouri quilting circle, Anna Goben is certain that she needs to enlist her family in the Boones Lick Company wagon train. The loss of her beloved brother in the Civil War has paralyzed her mother and grandfather in a malaise of grief and depression and Anna is convinced that only a fresh start in the Promised Land of California can bring her family back to her. Although the unknown perils of the trail west loom, Anna’s commitment to caring for her loved ones leaves no room for fear—or even loving someone new. During the five-month journey, trail hand Caleb Reger plans to keep a low profile as he watches over the band of travelers. Guarding secrets about his past and avoiding God’s calling on his life, Caleb wants to steer as far from Anna as she does him, but she proves to be just as he assessed her from the beginning— independent, beautiful trouble. Led by a pillar of hope, the group faces rough terrain that begins to take a toll on their spirits. Will the wilderness of suffering lead them astray, or will the gentle song of love that echoes across the prairie turn their hearts toward God’s grace and the promise of a new home? |

Down In The Valley 1820's Down in the valley, the valley so low Hang your head over, hear the wind blow Hear the wind blow, dear, hear the wind blow; Hang your head over, hear the wind blow. Roses love sunshine, violets love dew, Angels in Heaven know I love you, Know I love you, dear, know I love you, Angels in Heaven know I love you. If you don't love me, love whom you please, Throw your arms round me, give my heart ease, Give my heart ease, dear, give my heart ease, Throw your arms round me, give my heart ease Build me a castle, forty feet high; So I can see her as she rides by, As she rides by, dear, as she rides by, So I can see her as she rides by. Write me a letter, send it by mail; Send it in care of the Birmingham jail, Birmingham jail, dear, Birmingham jail, Send it in care of the Birmingham jail. Roses love sunshine, violets love dew, Angels in Heaven know I love you, Know I love you, dear, know I love you, Angels in Heaven know I love you. Barbara Allen 1600's In Scarlet town where I was born There was a fair maid dwelling And every youth cried well away For her name was Barbara Allen Twas in the merry month of May The green buds were a swelling Sweet William on his deathbed lay For the love of Barbara Allen He sent a servant unto her To the place she was dwelling Saying you must come to his deathbed now If your name be Barbara Allen Slowly slowly she got up Slowly slowly she came nigh him And the only words to him she said Young man I think you're dying As she was walking oer the fields She heard the death bell knelling And every stroke it seemed to say Hardhearted Barbara Allen Oh mother mother make my bed Make it long and make it narrow Sweet William died for me today I'll die for him tomorrow They buried her in the old churchyard They buried him in the choir And from his grave grew a red red rose From her grave a green briar They grew and grew to the steeple top Till they could grow no higher And there they twined in a true love's knot Red rose around green briar Uncle Sam's Farm 1850 Of all the mighty nations in the east or in the west, O this glorious Yankee nation is the greatest and the best, We have room for all creation, and our banner is unfurl’d, Here’s a gen’ral invitation to the people of the world. (chorus) Oh, come away, come away, come away I say! Oh, come away, come away, come right away! Oh, come to this country and have no fear of harm, Our Uncle Sam is rich enough to give us all a farm. St. Lawrence marks our northern line, as fast her waters flow; And the Rio Grande our southern bound, ‘way down to Mexico. From the great Atlantic Ocean where the sun begins to dawn, Leap across the Rock Mountains far away to Oregon. (chorus) While the South shall raise the cotton, and the West, the corn and pork, New England manufactories shall do up the finer work; For the deep and flowing waterfalls that course along our hills, Are just the thing for washing sheep, and driving cotton mills. (chorus) | Old One Hundredth or Doxology 1674 Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heav’nly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Shall We Gather At The River 1863 Shall we gather at the river, Where bright angel feet have trod, With its crystal tide forever Flowing by the throne of God? Refrain: Yes, we’ll gather at the river, The beautiful, the beautiful river; Gather with the saints at the river That flows by the throne of God. On the margin of the river, Washing up its silver spray, We will talk and worship ever, All the happy golden day. Ere we reach the shining river, Lay we every burden down; Grace our spirits will deliver, And provide a robe and crown. At the smiling of the river, Mirror of the Savior’s face, Saints, whom death will never sever, Lift their songs of saving grace. Soon we’ll reach the silver river, Soon our pilgrimage will cease; Soon our happy hearts will quiver With the melody of peace. Nearer My God To Thee 1841 Nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee! E’en though it be a cross that raiseth me, Still all my song shall be, nearer, my God, to Thee. Refrain Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer to Thee! Though like the wanderer, the sun gone down, Darkness be over me, my rest a stone. Yet in my dreams I’d be nearer, my God to Thee. Refrain There let the way appear, steps unto Heav’n; All that Thou sendest me, in mercy given; Angels to beckon me nearer, my God, to Thee. Refrain Then, with my waking thoughts bright with Thy praise, Out of my stony griefs Bethel I’ll raise; So by my woes to be nearer, my God, to Thee. Refrain Or, if on joyful wing cleaving the sky, Sun, moon, and stars forgot, upward I’ll fly, Still all my song shall be, nearer, my God, to Thee. Refrain There in my Father’s home, safe and at rest, There in my Savior’s love, perfectly blest; Age after age to be, nearer my God to Thee. Refrain Simple Gifts 1848 'Tis the gift to be simple, 'tis the gift to be free 'Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be, And when we find ourselves in the place just right, 'Twill be in the valley of love and delight. When true simplicity is gain'd, To bow and to bend we shan't be asham'd, To turn, turn will be our delight, Till by turning, turning we come 'round right. |

-From the back cover-* THE FIRST STEP IN A CHALLENGING JOURNEY IS OFTEN THE ONE THAT MEANS THE MOST. Hearts Seeking Home Book 1 Though it means saying good-bye to the beloved friends and spiritual mentors of her St. Charles, Missouri, quilting circle, Anna Goben is certain that she needs to enlist her family in the Boone's Lick Company Wagon Train. The loss of her beloved brother in the Civil War has paralyzed her mother and grandfather in a malaise of grief and depressionm and Anna is convinced that only a fresh start in the Promised Land of California can bring her family back to her. Although unknown perils of the trail west loom, Anna's commitment to caring for her loved ones leaves no room for fear – or even loving someone new. Led by a pillar of hope, the group faces rough terrain that begins to take a toll on their spirits. Will the wilderness of suffering lead them astray, or will the gentle song of love that echoes across the prairie turn their hearts towards God's grace and the promise of a new home? * (Note: My copy is an ARC so the back cover will vary from the one officially published and that you will read) It's been awhile since the last wagon train story I read, kind of got tired of fluffy stories with no more trouble than a rainstorm. Prairie Song was far from it! The characters have real lives and real problems. Accidents happen, illness, and arguing between different families. There are trials and joys, heartache and hope. When I first started the story I was expecting the book to be all about Anna and Caleb but I was pleasantly surprised to find several other members of the wagon train get their 'screen time'. There are even a couple of more romances budding as the wagon wheels roll westward. Difficult issues are dealt with in Prairie Song, ones that many readers will find hit close to home. The growing confusion and sometimes antagonism reminded me in some ways of my own Grandpa's struggles before his stroke. Mona Hodgson deals with people's problems in a realistic but gentle manner. | . . This Book earned a 4 Bark rating. . . Visit Mona's Website HERE . . |

Reading and history have been my passion since early childhood when my parents encouraged both. I was introduced to Christian fiction around age 4-5 while listening to radio drama adaptations of books by great authors including Janette Oke. I have been a voracious reader and avid library patron ever since. I started Tell Tale Book Reviews in December 2012. I am also an active volunteer in the areas I hold most dear, library, museum, and pets. Hobbies include a small bead jewelry business, watching classic movies/ TV, listening to Irish/Celtic music, and autograph collecting.
