A Wedding for Julia, the third book in a romantic series from popular author Vannetta Chapman, takes a last look at the Amish community of Pebble Creek and the kind, caring people there. As they face challenges from the English world, they come together to reach out to their non-Amish neighbors while still preserving their cherished Plain ways. Julia Beechy is so stunned, she can hardly breathe. Her mother's announcement that she must either marry or move from the family home upon her mother's imminent death catches Julia by surprise. How can she leave the only home she has ever known? What about her dream of opening her own Plain cafe When Caleb Zook offers support, comfort, and a solution, Julia is afraid to accept it. Can she marry someone she barely knows? Is it the right thing to do? Is this God's plan for her future? Caleb thought his time for marrying was long past, but he feels a stirring in his heart he cannot shake for this beautiful, forlorn woman. Amid the circumstances of this life-altering decision, the people of Pebble Creek weather the worst storm to hit Wisconsin in the last hundred years. Where will Julia and Caleb be on the other side of it? Breakfast At Tiffany's
Starring
Audrey Hepburn ■ George Peppard
Struggling writer Paul Varjak moves into a New York apartment building and becomes intrigued by his pretty, quirky neighbor Holly Golightly. Holly's lifestyle confuses and fascinates Paul; in public she flits through parties with a sexy, sophisticated air, but when they're alone she changes into a sweetly vulnerable bundle of neuroses. Audrey Hepburn's most famous roll is Holly Golightly. What is it about the neurotic girl trying to cover up her own pain and insecurities with parties and other behaviors? I really don't know. I have to be honest, the first time I watched this movie I didn't like it. In fact I got really mad at a particular scene near the end, those who have seen this movie will know which one. But I watched it a couple of more times and it really grew on me, now it is one of my favorite Audrey movies, the others being Funny Face, Charade, and Sabrina. This movie really is more of a drama, a glimpse into the life of a girl with a difficult past and a man without much of future. Both Holly and Paul are flawed characters that have made poor life choices but you find yourself rooting for them to not only get together but to get their lives straightened out. I am not going to give away the end of course but it is well worth watching to find out for yourself. So, get some popcorn or whatever you like and take some time to visit Tiffany's, a New York City library, the fire escape on a Manhattan apartment, Sing-Sing prison and most of all fall in love with Cat. 115 Minutes | Principal Cast Audrey Hepburn ... This book was an emotional ride through some very dark topics. I was amazed how, despite the difficult topics of murder, abuse, kidnapping, human trafficking, the author kept the story from being impossibly dark and hopeless. Yes, these things were not whitewashed, but hope shone through on every page. Specifically the hope that comes from Jesus, and the inner strength and courage that only He can give.
The characters are not victims paralyzed by fear. They fight back, try to survive and do what is right. They sacrifice personal safety for each other and for strangers. It reminds me of the thought, “if not me, then who will?”
Deadly Ties moves around geographically, Florida, Louisiana, Mexico. Not bogging the story down, the author handles the scenery in this book very well. Enhancing the story, the senses are drawn in with the sights, sounds, smells. As a reader I like to read a book that engages not only my emotions but immerses me into the story so that when I put it down I have to 'return to the real world', this book did it very well.
One of the best suspense series' that I have read, it's nice that I already have the final book on my TBR shelf.
Tell Tale Book Reviews gives Deadly Ties by Vicki Hinze a 4 Bark rating.

Grace's Pictures
An Ellis Island Novel book 1
by Cindy Thomson
-From the back cover- “Listen to me, “ her mother had said. “I don't care what lies your father once spoke to you , darlin.... Remember this instead: You are smart. You are important. You are able.” Grace McCaffery hopes the bustling streets of New York hold all the promise the lush hills of Ireland did not. As her efforts to earn enough money to bring her mother to America fail, she wonders if her new Brownie camera could be the answer. But a casual stroll through a beautiful New York City park turns into a hostile run-in with local gangsters, who are convinced her camera holds the first and only photos of their elusive leader. A policeman with a personal commitment to help those less fortunate finds Grace attractive and longs to help her, but Grace believes such men are not to be trusted. Spread thin between her quest to rescue her mother, do well in a new nanny job, and avoid the gang intimidating her, Grace must put her faith in unlikely sources to learn the true meaning of courage and forgiveness. A sweet historical novel with a touch of danger that keeps you reading until the end. I love history so when I saw this book featured a heroine from Ireland, my favorite country to read about outside of the U.S., I jumped at the chance to review it. Grace's Pictures brought up some I history that I, quite frankly, had never thought of. Sitting here with my little touch-screen Nikon with its pink case and Marylin Monroe neck strap, I never really thought about what it would be like for people when the Brownie box camera was first introduced. “So easy even a child can use it”, those are some pretty empowering words if you really think about it. Now anyone could take photos, forever capturing the smile of a loved one or a scenic view that you wished to remember for years to come. Along with the newfound freedom came a question of ethics, loss of privacy, and even danger if you photographed the wrong person. We sure have come a long way since 1900. | . . . This Book earned a 4 Bark rating. . . . |
This book is not Historical Romance. Historical, yes, but not overly romantic. Grace's Pictures is more about Grace, herself. Grace has a lot to learn, about...everything. With her emotional growth stunted by years of verbal abuse, first from her father, and then at the workhouse, she is torn screaming from her mother and then unable to see her for years. She is sent to America, an alien country, where she has to mature and learn to take care of not only herself, but the children she nannies for. Grace has to learn to trust others, herself, and most importantly, God.
Will Grace learn to trust and find the inner strength that only God can give, in time to save herself and the others now in danger because of her? My suggestion is to read this book and find out!

Falling To Pieces
A Shipshewana Amish Mystery book 1
by Vannetta Chapman
The idea for an Amish cozy mystery came from my editor at Zondervan. I happen to think the focal point of the story is not the murder, but the friendships that develop within the community. And THAT was inspired by so many middle-aged women I know who feel isolated and are longing for true, meaningful friendships.
Most books I write in 4-6 months. I'm sure it didn't take any longer than that, as I had one due every 6 months for this series.
I did fall in love with Max, the golden retriever. He's one of those "characters" that just popped up without asking permission. lol. However, I think experiencing the unconditional love of a pet was an important break-through moment for Callie.
My goal is always that readers will be more aware of God's grace in their life.
My editor at Zondervan chose Shipshewana. I had never heard of it! Since then we have visited many times, and the people are always lovely.
Ack! I have problems with character names. If I hear a good name, I'll make a not ein my phone. I'm always running out of names! :)
Hubby and I were sitting outside at a local burger join. I started talking to him about the last time we were there with the dog--and I knew something was wrong by the look on his face. Then I remembered, we don't have a dog! It was a scene I wrote in the book! This happens more often than I care to admit.
Jeremiah 29:11 has long been a verse that I cling to.
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
In this story, Callie's faith is in its infancy, and Deborah does not try to convert her! However, she does constantly remind her of God's faithfulness. I hope, as readers enjoy this book, that they too will be reminded God has a plan for each of us.

She blends the familiar components consumers love in Amish books---faith, community, simplicity, family---with an innovative who-done-it plot that keeps readers guessing right up to the last stitch in the quilt. When two women---one Amish, one English---each with different motives, join forces to organize a successful on-line quilt auction, neither expects nor wants a friendship. As different as night and day, Deborah and Callie are uneasy partners who simply want to make the best of a temporary situation. But a murder, a surprising prime suspect, a stubborn detective, and the town's reaction throw the two women together, and they form an unlikely alliance to solve a mystery and catch a killer. Set in the well-known Amish community of Shipshewana, Falling to Pieces will attract both devoted fans of the rapidly-growing Amish fiction genre, as well as those who are captivated by the Amish way of life.

Reading and history have been my passion since early childhood when my parents encouraged both. I was introduced to Christian fiction around age 4-5 while listening to radio drama adaptations of books by great authors including Janette Oke. I have been a voracious reader and avid library patron ever since. I started Tell Tale Book Reviews in December 2012. I am also an active volunteer in the areas I hold most dear, library, museum, and pets. Hobbies include a small bead jewelry business, watching classic movies/ TV, listening to Irish/Celtic music, and autograph collecting.
