| In the shadow of a threatening volcano, long-haul trucker Kit Garrido wakes up in her crashed big rig, unable to recall what happened or why she’s suddenly in possession of someone’s baby. Fiercely independent, she has to admit that perhaps this time she could use a little help. As the threat of eruption grows, former cop Cullen Landry refuses to leave his cabin in the evacuation area, which is why he’s the only one left who can help Kit escape the crumpled cab of her truck. He doesn’t want to get tangled up in the mystery of the beautiful woman with an abandoned infant, but when he sees the bullet hole in the windshield and the bloody handprint on the interior, he realizes that he’s in this thing, like it or not. When two armed men with ill intent approach, the race is on to stay alive, discover the truth, and find the baby’s missing mother–all while a deadly mountain rains fire from above. My first introduction to Dana Mentink's exciting romantic suspense was actually through her Love Inspired Suspense natural disaster series from a decade or so ago. I've stayed a fan of hers - across genres and publishers - since then, so I was pretty excited to see her Elements Of Danger series would hearken back to what had gotten me hooked in the first place - a good disaster story.
Fire Mountain proved to be every bit as dramatic and thrilling as anticipated and it has the Elements Of Danger series off to an explosive start. Seriously, dropping a mystery into the lap of an erupting volcano, well, it's kinda hard to top it. Dana Mentink kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish and Fire Mountain was definitely hard to put down. Both the volcano and the mystery threads had me turning those pages to find out more and what might happen next.
From cover to cover, Fire Mountain was a good read, and, as a result, I am really looking forward to the next book in the Elements Of Danger series. Dana Mentink has me hook, line, and sinker with book one, so I'll have to see how she amps up the ante in book two....
Tell Tale Book Reviews gives Fire Mountain by Dana Mentink a 4 Bark rating.
