Interview with Judy
I had just read ‘A Land Remembered’ by Patrick D. Smith about the history of Florida when my publisher put out a request for Christmas Cowboy novellas. I suggested a historical one of the Florida Cracker Cowboys, and soon I was writing.
#2. How long did it take to finish writing this book?
Because of the request of the Publisher and the fact it was a novella, I had about two months to complete it.
#3. What drew you to write in this particular genre?
I enjoy historical fiction with a touch of romance and lot of information of life in that time.
#4. Tell us something funny, sad, embarrassing, whatever, that happened involving this book.
I had to watch several hours of cows giving birth, the problems involved, and how to assist the process. Although I spent time at my cousin’s farm growing up, the birth process for cows was new to me yet an integral part of the book. I just had to laugh at the type of research we have to do for our books.
#5. Tell us a little about yourself, your family, friends.
I’m a retired 5th grade teacher, so because for 22 years I explained things so that age group could understand, my writing is easy to follow. We have two children and our daughter has one child, so that little guy is our delight. We live in the woods of Door County, a peninsula of NE Wisconsin. It’s a beautiful place.
#6. Share with us a thought, Bible verse, whatever is on your mind/heart.
With all the cultural and political controversies in the world today, the Lord spoke a phrase to me a few years ago that applies so well to this: ‘Hold onto your convictions; let go of your offense.’ This helps maintain balance in the upheaval.
More from Judy
Judy DuCharme is a crazy Packer fan and would rather be walking near the water than at any shopping mall. She is smarter than a fifth grader, having taught them for 22 years, specializing in fun, hands-on, basic science. In case anyone wondered, the cutest grandson in the world belongs to her. And he’s smart, too. Judy descended from the family that founded the first Mennonite/Amish congregation in this country in the mid-1700s. So, with such a heritage, she loves the Lord, loves to worship, and loves to teach Bible studies. |
