There are Love Inspired Suspense authors that I've read and enjoyed for years and then there are newer ones that I'm quickly coming to like just as much. Sharee Stover is one of the latter, Cold Case Trail is the 4th book of hers that I've read in as many years and with each one I'm hooked a little more.

I'll admit that I had a little bit of a hard time with Justine for awhile, but it was her stubborn and kind of unreasonable belief that Trey was at fault for their friend's death that actually made her seem more real. I did like Trey, but, for me, Magnum was the character I loved best. I know, he's a dog but he was such a hero in Cold Case Trail that I just couldn't help myself.

Sharee Stover did a great job keeping the action hopping all throughout the story. Her characters didn't get a chance to take a breath and neither do readers. If you are a fan of the quick-reading Love Inspired Suspense novels I would would definitely recommend checking out this book and author...

Sharee Stover is quickly becoming one of my favorite Love Inspired Suspense authors and Grave Christmas Secrets is a good example as to why. The story starts off with a mysterious body found buried in an unexpected place and from there on in it's a wild ride of danger, suspense, betrayal, and romance.

I had a hard time putting down Grave Christmas Secrets, I just HAD to know what Sharee Stover was going to put her characters through next! And they really go through the wringer before that last page is turned. The twists and turns and surprises in this Love Inspired Suspense novel kept me anxiously turning those pages.

If you are looking for a good holiday romantic suspense read I'd definitely recommend Sharee Stover's newest release, Grave Christmas Secrets. It's a quick and easy, but very exciting, read and will be sure to please any Love Inspired Suspense fan.

1. What was the inspiration for this book?
I’m always learning and taking in possible story ideas. So, in a one-day Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms writing conference I attended, I took copious notes. The compilation of that conference and a lot of research birthed my three-book ATF Heroes series releasing in May, November, and the spring of 2021.

The idea for the first book in the series, Untraceable Evidence, came as a result of research regarding 3D printer guns. An article in USA Today was especially helpful as it specifically named ATF agents using Cody Wilson’s online blueprint model for a 3D printer gun. They tested the prototypes using different grades of resin and found the better the quality of resin, the longer the gun held. The Undetectable Firearms Act of 1988 specifically requires guns to have metal components because that makes them visible via metal detectors. Believe it or not, reading the Act triggered (no pun intended) my thinking.

What would happen if a completely plastic gun with no metal parts was developed? How easily would the weapon be transported, smuggled into schools, airports, court rooms, etc.? Using the information gleaned in my research, I also learned frangible ammunition or disintegrating bullets exists and leaves no bullet casings. Thus, the WHAT IF began for Untraceable Evidence.

2. How long did it take to finish writing this book?
The short answer is four months, but that’s only the first draft.
The long answer is that the idea for Untraceable Evidence came in July 2018 at the writer’s conference. However, it wasn’t until a month or two after the conference that I started fleshing out the characters and plot. Once the first draft is complete, the book goes through several rounds of editing, revisions, etc. until the final story is submitted which was September 2019.

3. What made you choose some of the specific locations in this book?
I’ve heard it said, “write what you know” so for me that makes Nebraska an easy choice. My favorite part is northeastern Nebraska where we have lots of rolling hills and it’s very pretty. Randee and Ace travel a large area from Randolph (located in northeastern Nebraska) to Omaha (in the far southeastern part of the state). Additionally, there are a lot of small towns spaced out in rural areas which works well for car chases without traffic.

4. What do you hope that people will learn from your story?
I’ve always had strong career ambitions and pursuing my dreams was number one in my life. Until Ace came along. He changed everything and although I still wanted big things, I wanted a future with him more, even if it meant giving up everything I’d worked so long to achieve. I knew risking my career to prove him innocent was worth it. I always thought I’d have to choose between being an ATF agent or having a family. Ace showed me that was incorrect. Life doesn’t have to be an either-or type of situation. It might take some adjustments, but dreams are possible with God beyond what our infinite minds conceive.

5. What is your greatest strength and your greatest flaw?
As a scientist, I require quantifiable, measurable standards in order to make decisions. That’s a strength but doesn’t always work, especially when it comes to emotions. And emotions are my flaw…I’m terrible with them. I struggle to accept anything at face value, because I need to test it first. I have a heart to help people and make the world a better place, but I have a hard time accepting I deserve a better life too. Randee has shown me God will work in my life and give me His free gift of grace.

6. What part of the writing process do you like the least?
It kind of depends on the day. LOL. I think it’s safe to say the answer lies somewhere between editing and writing a synopsis.
Editing is a double-edged sword because it’s the best part of tightening a story. However, there’s no rushing the process and that can make it super tedious.
The synopsis is always a no-fun activity, but I rely on my synopsis to write the book, so it’s a necessary annoyance.

7. Tell us something funny, sad, embarrassing. Whatever that has happened in your life as a writer.
Oh, the stories I could tell! I think one of the most memorable writing memories for me was my first book signing at Barnes and Noble. I was there with a dear friend of mine who is a multi-published author. She had tons of traffic while I was a brand-new author. I did get the opportunity to talk to several of the shoppers, which for an introvert like me, is HUGE!
I didn’t sell many books that day, and I was a little disheartened.
Until I received an email from one of those shoppers.
I never realized how powerful our short conversation had been. In her email, she explained she’d had no intention of buying my book, but she had and after reading it, she was assured God put her right where she was supposed to be, and my book was what she needed. I cannot tell you how that encouraged my heart!
That one email redefined how I viewed the precious gift of writing and attending book signings. It’s all about connecting with readers, whether there are a million or the one, God is always at work touching hearts.

Can they tell the good guys from the bad...

Wow! What a story! I was totally kept running in circles trying to figure it all out! Of course, Randee and Ace were going in those same circles so I was in good company. I enjoyed Sharee Stover's previous book but I think Untraceable Evidence is my favorite, at least until her next release anyway.

Untraceable Evidence was a really good read. Short, easy to finish in a few hours. Best of all the action was non-stop and the romance was sparking. Sharee Stover has a real winner with her latest Love Inspired Suspense and I can't wait for from her!

Life As A Writer Interview
with Sharee Stover

#1. Are you a 'plotter' or a 'pantser'?
I am a PLANTSER if there’s any such creature. If not, and I must choose, I would say I’m more of a Plotter but I have rebellious tendencies to go Pantser while writing the story. I love having a thorough synopsis to work off of as I write.

#2. How long does it usually take to finish writing a book?
Because I start plotting books way in advance, I usually write an entire book within a couple of months. Then I need another two months to edit, re-edit, and re-re-edit my edits. I have trouble letting go.

#3. How do you choose your characters names?
I absolutely LOVE naming characters and I keep a spreadsheet of all my books to try and ensure that I don’t use the same name twice. One huge factor is checking that the name isn’t a famous person. Especially an infamous person. I use lots of different references, websites, and sometimes football players or credits from movies. I like unique names so I’m always on the lookout. I even keep a list for future reference. I’m a total name nerd.

#4. What does a typical writing day look like for you?
I start writing as soon as I have taken my daughter to school and I write all day until I pick her up. However, in between there, I take social media breaks, answer emails, and do whatever research is necessary.

#5. What do you do to inspire creativity?
I love watching crime dramas and true crime shows like Forensic Files. But if I’m struggling to get that creative energy flowing, I take a complete break and watch something fun like Friends or Gilmore Girls. I love to read so I’ll often grab something outside my genre and just submerse myself into a story. I take walks with my dog and sometimes if I’m stuck in the story, I’ll talk out the plot with my husband who is a master at shooting holes in my plot.

#6. What would be one thing you readers knew about authors or the writing life?
Writing is a tough business. Before publication, it can take years to sign with an agent and get that first book contract. Books are an extension of (sometimes one or more) years’ worth of work. So be kind with reviews and remember there’s a human behind book.

#7. What authors have influenced you the most?
Francine Rivers was one of the first Christian authors I ever read and I consumed everything I could find by her. Randy Alcorn’s Safely Home is my all-time favorite book ever.

I'm always up for trying new Love Inspired Suspense authors and I don't think that I've read a single LIS book that I truly disliked. Enter in Sharee Stover last year with her first book. I enjoyed that book so I knew I would like Silent Night Suspect. And I was right! To be honest, I liked this book even better.

While I'm not a fan of amnesia tropes, I liked how the cause of Asia's amnesia was not the usual same ol', same ol'. Speaking of Asia, can I just say how much I love her name? There are so many Taylors, Autumns, Sarahs, and Rachels out there that it's nice to see a name I've never spotted in a book before. Anyway, back to what I was saying. While the amnesia theme has, at times, been overused, I felt that Sharee Stover managed to keep it from being a stale trope in Silent Night Suspect.

Silent Night Suspect is a tense tale of danger, intrigue, betrayal, romance, faith, and forgiveness. I very much enjoyed the story and read it fairly quickly. Sharee Stover is fast becoming a seasoned author, which shows in this book, and I know that I will continue to look for, and enjoy, each new release.

I am an only child and my parents passed away too soon in my life. My parents were amazing people. Kind and loving. I miss them terribly. They loved Slade and always wanted us to be together.

Slade and I were high school sweethearts and then I married Zander right after college. Never really had friends outside of those two men. Sladeâ€™s sisters were always very good to me and I guess they were the closest friends I had besides Zander and Slade. â€‹

#2. What is the ONE thing you just CAN'T do without?
God. Heâ€™s the one who got me through the roughest days of my life. Heâ€™s the one who brought me back to Slade. My faith is not only essential in my life, itâ€™s like oxygen.

â€‹Making stupid mistakes again. I wasted so many years. I never want to do that again.

#4. What is your greatest strength and your greatest flaw?
â€‹Iâ€™m ridiculously persistent so I supposed that could be a strength and a flaw. But itâ€™s also what I need to clear my name and stay alive while killers are determined to silence me.

I always thought it would be to change marrying Zander. But Slade says good can come from the bad and that even in the hard times we can find blessings. Still, I wish Iâ€™d always chosen Slade.

That itâ€™s never too late to find love again and that everyone deserves a second chance.

I fell in love with the slim little Love Inspired books, especially the Suspense line, several years ago. They are usually quick and easy reads packed with danger and romance. I'm always up for trying a new author and Sharee Stover is just that, new to me, and Secret Past is her debut novel!

As expected, Secret Past delivered an exciting story with plenty of spine-tingling moments and non-stop action. The cross-country chase also provided some fascinating scenery, and a few places I would love to see myself someday. Sharee Stover has a great start with this first book and I hope to see more from her in the future.
