– Carrie Stuart Parks, award-winning, bestselling author of Relative Silence on Rising Danger
I am not new to Jerusha Agen's romantic suspense as I loved her Guardians Unleashed series, however, I am new to the Windy City Westons despite Wasted being the second book. I was simply intrigued by the cover and a fan of the author so I decided to dive in anyway.
One thing I'd like to say right off is that I really loved that neither the heroine nor hero are in any form of law enforcement or military. As much as I enjoy stories with those occupations, it's also nice to read about characters who have everyday jobs – in this case, physical therapist and social worker – but still manage to figure out who-done-it.
The mystery element is very well done with some red herrings and a few unexpected surprises along the way. I can usually figure out a killer long before the reveal but this one I didn't. I did guess correctly who had NOT done it but the real murderer's ID was as much of a revelation to me as it was to the lead characters.
I'll have to admit that I had a hard time connecting with the main characters. Honestly, they both irritated me but for opposite reasons. But, I couldn't put the book down. I had to know what happened next. I had to find out who killed Victoria's patient. I had to see if both she and Cillian could lay aside the past and move beyond their stubborn mistakes. I didn't finished Wasted in a single sitting but it wasn't too far from it either.
This is the second book in the Windy City Westons but I must say that after reading it, I am definitely intrigued by the rather dysfunctional family and curious to find out what danger and romance that Jerusha Agen will bring their way in the next one....
