Uncharted Freedom
Uncharted book 9
by Keely Brooke Keith
-From Goodreads- Naomi McIntosh is running from her family’s oppressive expectations and the loathsome man her father has demanded she marry. Renaming herself to live incognito, she takes a housekeeping job at the Inn at Falls Creek and promises God this false identity will be her last. When shepherd James Roberts goes home to the Inn at Falls Creek for his sister’s wedding, he doesn’t expect the woman who once broke his heart to be working there. No matter how much he wants to be with Naomi again, he can’t go along with her charade, especially since he is trying to persuade his father to make him the inn’s heir. Though Naomi yearns for a future with James, if she confesses her deception to everyone, her estranged fiancé will find her. And the longer James goes without telling his family the truth about Naomi—and their growing relationship—the further he jeopardizes the inheritance. But just when their relationship looks promising, the inn proves to be a poor hiding place from Naomi’s past. Meanwhile, in Good Springs… Connor Bradshaw wrestles with the overseers’ decision to preserve the Land’s pacifist ways. His desire to build a defense system for the Land keeps him up at night, secretly scanning for radio transmissions from the warring outside world. His training to be a village overseer will require him to lay down his weapons, but a voice over the radio waves ignites his worst fears. I'm not sure I've ever finished an Uncharted book as quickly as I did Uncharted Freedom. There was something about Naomi and James that kept me glued to the page, or rather to my e-reader, and I read that last page mere hours after starting this ninth book in Keely Brooke Keith's rather unique series.
I really enjoyed the mix of sweet romance with the edge of dystopian. The two are an unlikely couple but it really works with Keely Brooke Keith's wonderful style of storytelling. They just balance each other out in a way that is intriguing and entertaining. The element of Naomi's secrets coming to light also provided a bit of danger an excitement that, I'm sure both she and James could have done without, kept me turning Uncharted Freedom's digital pages. There were also some pretty thought-provoking moments in this story as both James and Naomi have to come to grips with difficult questions and situations in life that test them and cause them to grow in ways neither one expects.
Though this is the 9th book in the Uncharted series I can tell you that it's still going strong and I can't wait to see where Keely Brooke Keith takes The Land and its inhabitants next. In Uncharted Freedom there are tantalizing hints and questions about big things yet to come and I'm totally on tenterhooks. If you'd like to be a little different in your reading I highly recommend this author and her entire Uncharted series, they are all really really good...
