Years ago I read about the Acadian Expulsion, I even wrote a couple of school papers about the event, it both fascinated and horrified me that something like that could and did happen. When I read the blurb for Mermaid's Song and found out that it blended the historical event and the old tale of The Little Mermaid my interested was piqued.

Mermaid's Song is a short, easy, read. It's a sweet romance with a nice little dash of danger and intrigue. And the historical note at the end is quite interesting and well worth reading. I enjoyed my little jaunt with author Darlene Franklin into the dangerous and fascinating world of 1750's Maine.

Sometimes family and foe can be the same thing...

I fell in love with the slim little Love Inspired books, especially the Suspense line, several years ago. They are usually quick and easy reads packed with danger and romance. I'm always up for trying a new author and Sharee Stover is just that, new to me, and Secret Past is her debut novel!

As expected, Secret Past delivered an exciting story with plenty of spine-tingling moments and non-stop action. The cross-country chase also provided some fascinating scenery, and a few places I would love to see myself someday. Sharee Stover has a great start with this first book and I hope to see more from her in the future.

Several years ago I read my first Jocelyn Green book, the start of her Civil War series, and I was hooked. Her no-nonsense writing style and the fact that she didn't shy away from the nitty-gritty, and darker, parts of history was right up my alley. No fluff and endless tea parties here! Since then, I've eagerly looked forward to each of her new releases.

I knew even before I had A Refuge Assured in my hands that I was in for a real treat and that I would learn some amazing stuff about history while being entertained by fiction. And I was in no way disappointed! From the gorgeous cover, loved the touches of 'lace', to the historical note at the end, Jocelyn Green kept engaged and engrossed.

A Refuge Assured is a wonderful story filled with fascinating history wrapped in a poignant tale of loss, love, family, faith, and finding peace in terrifying times.

She's guilty...but of what?

Biblical fiction can be a dicey subject and I've always been a little wary of trying new-to-me authors. But, over the last couple of years I've heard so many good things about Connilyn Cossette's books that when I saw she was starting a new series I decided I wanted to give them a try. And then I saw that the series was going to be about the Cities Of Refuge, a subject that I've never seen before in Biblical fiction. I was fascinated by the idea, I remember reading about the cities in the Bible and wondering about the kinds of people that would be have been forced to seek asylum in them.

After reading A Light On The Hill I am pleased to say that I've found another favorite Biblical fiction author. I loved how Connilyn Cossette didn't try to put a modern lens on her characters lives, they see and experience the harsh and dangerous world that existed at that time and they accept many things that are historically accurate but our modern Western mindset rebels against.

A Light On The Hill was an amazing story! Full of danger, intrigue, romance, and a desperate flight through the incredible scenery of the Holy Land. I really had a hard time putting this book down, it has such a moving and powerful message, and am now anxiously awaiting the next book in this wonderful and fascinating series.

If you are a fan of the author or of the Love Inspired Suspense line Deep Waters is a must read! And if you love a story featuring one of God's most interesting creatures, sea turtles, you really should check this book out!

So, I've been a fan of Dana Mentink for some time now and I have to say that Treacherous Trails is probably her best book yet. Action-packed and fast-paced from the very beginning, Dana Mentink takes the Thorn family, and readers, to a new level of adrenaline laced danger, intrigue, and betrayal. I was kept engrossed and flipping pages nearly as fast as my fingers could go. Definitely a book I couldn't put down.

I've read a number of Janice Thompson's contemporary romantic comedies so I was pleased to see that she had a title coming in the My Heart Belongs In... series. And when I found out that it was set during the California Gold Rush era I was even more interested.

I have to admit that sometimes I wanted to give Abby a good shaking because of her stubborn naivety. But then the same went for Samuel's stubborn self righteousness. Those two really are quite the pair. In addition to Abby and Samuel, My Heart Belongs In San Francisco, California: Abby's Prospects was populated with some delightfully fun and quirky characters, as well as an oily charming villain.

The use of a few phrases/terms that wouldn't come into actual usage for a few decades was only a tiny hiccup and didn't distract from my enjoyment of this truly sweet historical romance.

Janice Thompson's newest release, My Heart Belongs In San Francisco, California: Abby's Prospects, is a lovely addition to the My Heart Belongs In... series and a must read for all fans.

My Review

Will the pursuit of justice cost them everything?

Around the time most girls wanted to become fashion designers I wanted to be an archaeologist. And that's what really attracted me to The Tempering Agent, the heroine is an archaeologist in Egypt. Talk about some amazing history and a totally exotic location! Toss in plenty of suspense and romance and you get a book that I wanted to read.

I did notice several references to what assume must be another book. I do think this book can be read standalone, but, if the opportunity presents itself I would like to read the other one as well.

As a rockhound myself, I think my absolute favorite part of The Tempering Agent is how, author Victoria Pitts Caine chose to head each chapter with some great tidbits of information on gemstones and metals, all related to one key artifact in the story.

Victoria Pitts Caine delivers a simple, easy to read, story packed with danger, intrigue, romance, and betrayal. It's also the story of a girl trying to find her way through grief and back into a life of faith and love.

I enjoyed my little jaunt into Egypt and the thrilling world of archaeology and antiquities...

Since childhood, I have been interested in genealogy and ancient Egypt. Two of my prior novels, Alvarado Gold and Cairo, let me follow my fantasies into those two areas. Donnie the hero in The Tempering Agent is also in the other two books, and it was his turn to find his own romance. When archaeologist Dr. Priscilla Hackling finds herself drawn back into the murder investigation of her fiancé and the missing breast plate of the high priest, Agent Donnie Barnes, is just the man to help her out, even if she doesn’t think so.

Traveling along with Priscilla and Donnie, I discovered some interesting facts about ancient Egypt, from the ruins in the Siwa Desert to the mystery of the Valley of the Kings.

The genealogy factor in my novels is Donnie is loosely based on my cousin. Alvarado Gold tells the story of my family while Cairo and The Tempering Agent fueled my inquisitiveness about Egypt.
