Make the office a wonderful place to love in!
| The mysterious man hanging about at the research department of a big TV network proves to be engineer Richard Sumner, who's been ordered to keep his real purpose secret: computerizing the office. Department head Bunny Watson, who knows everything, needs no computer to unmask Richard. The resulting battle of wits and witty dialogue pits Bunny's fear of losing her job against her dawning attraction to Richard. My favorite Tracy-Hepburn film and one of my favorite movies. Desk Set is the height of 50's romantic comedy. There is very little serious about this movie, but it is, instead, one hilarious battle of the sexes and of old and new. Modern viewers will certainly laugh when they see EMERAC, the computer. She is HUGE and has all kinds of crazy blinking lights. Of course, anyone that has ever had a blue-screen-of-death will see the resemblance when Miss Emmy is forcibly shut down with the red switch. I wouldn't hesitate to let the whole family watch this one, though I think that the storyline would appeal more to adults. As a girl that grew up on The African Queen, It's A Wonderful Life, and The Wizard Of Oz, I would have enjoyed this one as teenager This is a great movie for winding down in the evening or relaxing on a weekend. Desk Set is predictable in the romance department but how they get there is what makes it so fun and funny.
