#1. What was the inspiration for this book?
The story of The Restitution came from one of the characters in book 2 in the series, Captain Kent Carlton. He is actually the villain in The Reliance, but by the end of that book, I really felt like he needed his own story. I saw in his evil heart something that was begging to be redeemed, begging to be loved and accepted.

#2. Do you have favorite character(s) in this book?
Yes. The hero, Kent Carlson. He starts out in the beginning as a pretty bad pirate, drinking and wenching and stealing, etc... You know, doing what pirates do! But when he discovers he has a son from a woman he once loved, that knowledge sends him on a journey to reunite his family. Along the way, he meets God and finds out that he was loved all along by his Creator. By the end of the book, Kent has become a new man.

That no matter how bad you've been or how many horrible things you've done, you are never more than one small step away from falling into the arms of your loving Savior.

Hmm.. It's been 7 years since I wrote this book and I can't think of anything that happened while I was writing it except I remember being very nervous about finishing it on time! I was new to being an author and was still getting adjusted to deadlines!

The hero in the story, Kent, has done some pretty vile things. Things you and I would probably never think to do. Yet, aren't our own sins just as bad? The hatred, fury, jealousy, lust, envy, and selfishness in our own hearts is really no better. Through the story of The Restitution, I want everyone to know that God not only forgives ALL, but He forgets. I love the verse in Psalm 103 that says "As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us."
