Ruby threw Jackson’s phone at his chest. Thankfully years of playing all kinds of sports made his reflexes quick and he caught the phone before it could fall.
“I’ll just wait it out,” Ruby muttered, looking around her car that did not look equipped for winter camping.
“All night?” Jackson asked with a raised eyebrow.
“Someone will be by sometime.”
“Our ranch is really the only reason for someone to be on this part of the road,” Jackson replied. “As far as I know, the rest of my family is at home. Memphis might still be out. But he might stay out the whole night. Who knows with that one.”
Ruby lifted her chin.
“Then I can sleep in my car.”
“The temperatures are dipping into the subzero range. Sure you want to chance that?” Jackson asked. Even with his rancher jacket that got him through the worst of winters he was still a bit chilly out here. Ruby had to be freezing.
But he could see that her pride wouldn’t let her give in. And what kind of man would he be if he let her freeze out in this, even if she did hate him?
