I didn't mean to... I really didn't... I had other books I needed to be reading. I really did. But I just couldn't help myself... Ever since I finished reading A Time To Die, and it ended on such a cliffhanger, I've been thinking about Parvin, and Solomon, and Willow, and Elm, and Mr. and Mrs. Blackwater, and all of the other characters, some who had become my friends and some I that I felt were my enemies as well. Yeah, Nadine Brandes is just THAT good! My emotions were totally engaged with the first book and I found that to be even more true with A Time To Speak.
And this time around I found myself thinking even more about what it would be like to know your exact time of death and wondering how it would affect me if I knew. Would I, coward that I am, realize that I had nothing to lose and that nothing I could do would add another second to my time? You see, I already know the one thing that Parvin, and all of the others in the USE, struggle with, every moment of my life is in God's hands. I do not draw a single breath without Him. Pretty deep for a YA book you say? Maybe. But I have to say that I like to find a YA book, or any book, that both entertains and makes you think.
A Time To Speak is an utterly engrossing story. I couldn't seem to put it down, I just HAD to know what would come next. This book is a bit gritty but it is also oh so wonderful. Nadine Brandes has written a story that will stay with the reader, YA and Adult alike, long after that last page is turned. Now, on to book three...
