But when Astrid struggles with writer’s block, she agrees to play matchmaker for Imogene Yoder, a widowed mother of rambunctious twin boys. Perhaps the diversion—and the entrée it gives Astrid to the stories among the Widows’ Club—will spark her creativity . . . Fortunately, Astrid has just the match for Imogene: a widower she believes is the finest, most handsome man in town. In fact, Astrid realizes he’s perfect . . . for herself! Soon, the plot thickens as Imogene questions what kind of marriage she really wants, and Astrid wonders what kind of matchmaker falls for someone else’s match. What could possibly go wrong when a never married Amish romance author – who is Amish herself – decides to try her hand at matchmaking for the sake of gaining material for her next book? Well, this is an Amy Lillard novel so you know it is sure to be fun, but it will also have moments that are poignant and some that will leave you laughing out loud.
The Amish Matchmaker did not disappoint in any of those respects whatsoever. While I did enjoy the first Paradise Valley book just a little bit more, I was still caught up in Astrid's adventures – or rather misadventures – in matchmaking from the moment Imogene first knocked on her door. And there were plenty of those missteps as everyone gets caught up in the fallout of her sometimes slightly crazy schemes.
Two of my favorite characters from the first book in the Paradise Valley series made an appearance in The Amish Matchmaker and it was so much fun to 'see' them again. However, aside from the two adorable trouble-making little boys that charmed the socks off of me with their antics, my favorite character turned out to be Astrid's brother, Jesse. I liked him from the very start and that only grew as the story went on.
It's no secret that I am a fan of Amy Lillard's Amish fiction. I've been right there anticipating and then reading each new release through several series. I haven't met one that I didn't like and that has certainly held true with The Amish Matchmaker and its predecessor in Amy Lillard's new Paradise Valley series. The only question I have is what will the Widows Club be up to in the next book...?
