Can they both be redeemed from their pasts?
What an interesting story. Reminiscent of a Biblical parable but with all of the bells and whistles of a fantasy tale. There's definitely a little bit of everything in A Path To Acceptance including betrayal, sacrifice, redemption, not to mention battles of the sword variety and magic both good and evil.
I was caught up pretty quickly in this second book in The Prodigal Woman series and in the lives of Penelope and Ryland. Their struggles with acceptance, forgiveness, and simply letting go of the pain and regret of the past so it can be turned over to the One who heals... Good fiction should be window into real life and even though this book from Lisa M. James is very much a fantasy the emotions and reactions of the characters are not an unfair representation. The topics taken on in this story are difficult ones and it can be a bit gritty in places so this is one book that I would recommend more for adults or much older teens.
The fantasy elements were another interesting part of the story. They were part ancient civilization, part regular fantasy, and almost felt like fictional introduction to spiritual warfare. That last part rather surprised me as I was reading A Path To Acceptance but I don't think it was misplaced. What better place than fiction to bring up a Biblical truth that is often forgotten.
This second Prodigal Woman novel will tug at your heart, it may not always be easy to read, but it can be a thought provoking – and convicting in places – tale of redemption. I do think that, after reading this one, I will be looking for the first book in Lisa M. James' compelling series...
