Three orphaned siblings are forced upon confirmed bachelor Donovan (Bixby) in a 19th century boom town of Quake City, CA. After an earthquake shakes the area, the children find a large gold nugget worth tens of thousands of dollars. But their newfound wealth is causing more problems than it's solving, so they agree to "give" the gold to two bumbling outlaws (Knotts & Conway). But they only way they can get the gold is to steal it from the bank vault where it's being held for safe keeping.
This movie is the quintessential Disney live-action kids film. I think most of us grew up on The Apple Dumpling Gang. I first watched this movie as a kid back in the 90's, remember VHS tapes? I loved the movie then and now I drag it out whenever I want to feel like a kid again.
This hilarious western, or rather spoof on a western, has some laughs for the whole family, and features a lot of familiar faces from movies and TV. Suspend credibility, grab some popcorn and the kids, and sit down to enjoy the silly antics of Theodore, Amos, and "three little swindlers."
