Book Review - My Heart Belongs In Niagara Falls, New York: Adele's Journey by Amanda Barratt1/29/2018 Genre: Historical Romance My Heart Belongs In Niagara Falls, New York |
-From Amazon- Journey now to Niagara Falls, New York, of 1870 where... She avoids danger at all costs. He makes his living by rushing headlong into it. Outwardly, Adele Linley’s trip to visit her American cousins is nothing more than a summer vacation. In reality, she’s the daughter of an English aristocrat with barely a penny to her name seeking a rich American husband. Having grown up in an overcrowded orphanage, Drew Dawson is determined to make a name for himself. He’ll take any honest job to provide for his sister—even crossing Niagara Falls by tightrope. On a sightseeing trip to the Falls, Adele meets several eligible suitors. Incredibly wealthy and pompous, Franklin Conway takes an immediate fancy to her. But Adele would truly like to marry for love. When she encounters the mysterious Drew in the garden, Adele is confused by her feelings for someone who is everything she is NOT looking for. Will they both stay the course they have chosen for themselves? ISBN-13: 978-1683223412 Will fortune & fame win out...or true love? | This Book received a 4 Bark rating. |
It's not often, especially when they get equal page time, that I like a book's hero better than the heroine. But I did this time. Drew is genuinely a nice guy, kind, loyal, and a man of faith. Adele loves and will do anything for her family which causes her to make some questionable decisions.
Through key characters readers see both the consequences of wresting control from God, taking matters into one's own hands, and the opposite, how faith can keep a person going when the going gets tough.
My Heart Belongs In Niagara Falls: Adele's Journey is an entertaining and surprisingly thought-provoking historical romance. This is Amanda Barratt's debut as a full-length novelist and it is an enjoyable read. Fans of this fun state inspired historical series will find this book to be a must read!

Celebrate Lit Blog Tour - A Song Unheard by Roseanna M. White + Review & Guest Post & Giveaway
1/24/2018
Willa Forsythe is both a violin prodigy and top-notch thief, which makes her the perfect choice for a crucial task at the outset of World War I—to steal a cypher from a famous violinist currently in Wales. Lukas De Wilde has enjoyed the life of fame he’s won—until now, when being recognized nearly gets him killed. Everyone wants the key to his father’s work as a cryptologist. And Lukas fears that his mother and sister, who have vanished in the wake of the German invasion of Belgium, will pay the price. The only light he finds is meeting the intriguing Willa Forsythe. But danger presses in from every side, and Willa knows what Lukas doesn’t—that she must betray him and find that cypher, or her own family will pay the price as surely as his has. Genre: Christian Historical Fiction Release Date: January 2, 2018 |
For several years now I've been hearing about the author Roseanna M. White, many of my book buddies rave about her books, but I hadn't really had the chance to read one for myself. Enter A Song Unheard, there was just something about the book blurb that made me want to read it, even though it's actually the second book in the series and I hadn't read book one.
I was pleasantly surprised. Plenty of action, adventure, spies, prodigies, and one crazy family of thieves, kept this story from being a run-of-the-mill historical romance novel. And the characters of Willa and Lukas provided an unexpected depth that made this book a historical delight to read. They both have a lot to learn and a lot to overcome.
I learned a lot while reading A Song Unheard. Awhile back I read a book that talked about Belgium during WWI but I had no idea that there so many Belgians took refuge in England during the war. I love a story, especially a historical novel, where I learn while I'm entertained and Roseanna M. White did that very well in this book.
A Song Unheard was a very enjoyable read and I will definitely be looking for more books by this author and especially in this series.
Tell Tale Book Reviews gives A Song Unheard by Roseanna M. White a 4.5 Bark rating.

We all know how some random moments stand out forever in our memory. One such for me happened on the school bus. I was sitting with my best friend, talking about the new piano piece I was learning. “Via Delorosa” means Road of Sorrow, and it’s a song that tells musically about Jesus’ journey to Golgotha—ending with the faint chime of the nails being driven into his palms. As my beloved Mrs. Peto went through this song with me the night before, I remember her circling a D♯ that I’d missed and saying how important that note was. That it made the whole line weep.
That it would make the hearers weep. An epiphany so huge I had to share it with my friend. A well placed sharp could make music weep! Who knew?
That was but one lesson Mrs. Peto taught me in how music could evoke things words never could. A woman of strong faith, she also taught me how a song could preach the Gospel. Music can be medicine. It can be hope. It can be tears. It can be truth. Music can be Jesus to a hurting heart that turns its back on words.
This is a lesson I never forgot, and I had it always in mind as I was writing A Song Unheard. In this story, both my hero and heroine are musicians—violinists. But Willa (who is SO STUBBORN) wouldn’t listen to words of faith from any of the people in her life “suddenly spouting such nonsense.”
But then, in her darkest hour, she hears a slip of melody. And she realizes it’s the Lord.
I pray as readers move through the story of Willa Forsythe—violin prodigy and top-notch thief—that their spirits’ ears hear more than words, more than just a story. I pray they hear the Lord whispering that ultimate song. The one that says, “I love you.”
Roseanna M. White is a bestselling, Christy Award nominated author who has long claimed that words are the air she breathes. When not writing fiction, she’s homeschooling her two kids, editing, designing book covers, and pretending her house will clean itself. Roseanna is the author of a slew of historical novels that span several continents and thousands of years. Spies and war and mayhem always seem to find their way into her books…to offset her real life, which is blessedly ordinary. You can learn more about her and her stories at www.RoseannaMWhite.com. |

ISBN-13: 978-0310088059 Tips and tricks for BEING your best! | This Book received a 4.5 Bark rating. |
Since fashion and style have never been my thing I was surprised at how much I enjoyed reading and looking through Staying Stylish. The page layouts are great! Lots of photos, snippets of the text in fun fonts, and 'chapter' breaks that were well placed, plus a sweet attached ribbon bookmark. I loved how Candace Cameron Bure kept the advice and suggestions short and easy to understand. Style novices, like me, need not fear being overwhelmed. She also gave a lot of her own experiences and preferences as examples which is great!
Women of all ages can benefit from the tips and tricks in Staying Stylish, from girly-girl things like makeup and curling wands to advice on keeping yourself physically and spiritually healthy, and even how to pack for trips in order to get the most out of limited space. I enjoyed reading this book and I know it's something that I will continue to refer back to later on.

Isaiah's Daughter
A Novel Of Prophets & Kings
by Mesu Andrews
Biblical fiction is a genre that has really grown on me over the years. I'm still a little wary, I guess, of trying new authors but Mesu Andrews is one that I know and trust. Her compelling characters, her truly exquisite attention to detail, and her way of bringing the Holy Land and the Bible to life without compromising Biblical fact, are just amazing.
To be honest, when I started Isaiah's Daughter I really didn't remember having heard of Hephzibah before. I remembered reading about King Hezekiah asking God, and receiving, 15 more years to live, and having read the book of Isaiah, but that was it. Needless to say, reading this novel has caused me to want to dive back into the Old Testament to see what else I might have missed, as well as find out more about the historical and archaeological evidence.
Like the Bible, Isaiah's Daughter was sometimes hard to read. Not because it was dry and dull but because of the evil things, and the consequences of them, done by those who knew better. I was so emotionally engaged in the story that my heart hurt for these people, even though they were actually fictional and fictionalized characters.
If you are looking for a beautiful, sometimes heart-wrenching, story. The story of a girl who, like we all do, longs to be valuable, to be truly loved. This is the book for you. As you turn that last page you will be simply amazed, and blessed, by Mesu Andrews's superb storytelling and by her very message itself.
Tell Tale Book Reviews gives Isaiah's Daughter by Mesu Andrews a 5 Bark rating.
Mesu Andrews’ deep understanding of and love for God’s Word brings the biblical world alive for her readers. She and her husband, Roy, live in a log cabin snuggled into the beautiful Appalachian Mountains with their dog, Zeke. The Andrews’ have two married daughters and a small tribe of grandkids. Mesu loves movies, football, waterfalls, and travel. |

-From Goodreads- Imagine Heaven the way the Bible describes it--a place of exquisite beauty brimming with marvelous detail and intricate patterns; a special dwelling place free of corruption and sin; and a place of both rest and enjoyable, meaningful work. Let the power and majesty of Heaven fill your heart with joy as you color these 40 designs carefully interpreted from the pages of Scripture. Savor a respite from daily life as you read and meditate on devotions from best-selling author Randy Alcorn, a leading authority on Heaven. Picturing Heaven will offer you comfort and relaxation, while filling your heart with restful assurance that God prepares a special place for those who love Him. ISBN-13: 978-1496425270 Spend quality time with God as you color... I'm sure most people are aware of how adult coloring has taken the world by storm in the last couple of years. Now, for the first time, adults can pass over the kids coloring books and find a large selection of coloring books with more detailed and complicated designs to enjoy. With that has come a new hybrid, mixing devotionals with the relaxing art of coloring. Picturing Heaven is one of the first that I've actually had on my own shelf. | This Book received a 4 Bark rating. |
I chose to use Prismacolor pencils instead of my Sharpies because the pages are double-sided. The paper is a nice weight and the pencil color went on smoothly. The images are partially pre-filled with 'gold' but there are still lots of spaces and endless possibilities for any colors that you could imagine.
If you would like to mix your creativity with your devotional time Randy Alcorns's lovely Picturing Heaven coloring book might just be for you.

Reading and history have been my passion since early childhood when my parents encouraged both. I was introduced to Christian fiction around age 4-5 while listening to radio drama adaptations of books by great authors including Janette Oke. I have been a voracious reader and avid library patron ever since. I started Tell Tale Book Reviews in December 2012. I am also an active volunteer in the areas I hold most dear, library, museum, and pets. Hobbies include a small bead jewelry business, watching classic movies/ TV, listening to Irish/Celtic music, and autograph collecting.
