Identity Unknown was the perfect afternoon suspense read. Lots of action, danger, mystery, on both sides of the border, and of course, a great romance thread. I enjoyed every minute of this exciting book and could hardly put it down. I had fun trying to guess who the villain was, Terri Reed even managed to sidetrack me a bit which was great.

Whether you enjoy stories with a Christmas theme or just love romantic suspense you won't want to miss a second of the thrilling adventure in Identity Unknown.

While participating in a contest at a local newspaper in which school children are asked to submit a news story, local attorney Carson Drew's daughter Nancy intercepts a real story assignment. She "covers" the inquest of the death of a woman who was poisoned. Nancy doesn't think the young woman accused of the crime is guilty and corrals her neighbor Ted into searching for a vital piece of evidence, and they stumble onto the identity of the real killer.

Nancy Drew: Reporter is the 2nd of the four Bonita Granville films but was actually both the first one of the set that I saw AND the very first Nancy Drew movie. I guess the movie fell into the public domain a number of years ago which is why it's the easiest one to find now.

Like the other three movies this one has some funny moments, slapstick, and some crazy car chases. But Nancy Drew: Reporter is a little different in the musical aspect. Mary Lee appeared in this film, she can also be recognized in the Roy Rogers/Dale Evan's movies The Cowboy And The Senorita and Song Of Nevada, and with her came a rather humorous scene where the four kids must sing in a Chinese restaurant to pay for their lunches.

The who-done-it part is pretty obvious but it is still fun riding along with Nancy and Ted as they get into all kinds of crazy situations trying to solve a murder.

My Review

Will the past ruin their future?

So, I'll admit it. This is the first Dawn Crandall book that I've read. Yeah, I know this is book 4 but... I've heard great things from reader friends and The Cautious Maiden just sounded like an interesting story. And it really was an interesting story with plenty of secrets, romance, a little mystery, and an exciting ending with lots of adventure at the hands of a dastardly villain.

One of the things that I really liked about The Cautious Maiden is how Dawn Crandall portrayed the main characters as truly flawed people. Yes, the book is a historical romance, but there's more to it. It's also about the journeys of discovery and redemption that the heroine and hero must go on. Both of them have a lot to learn, Violet as she learns more about life and people, and Vance as he seeks to change and become the man God intended him to be. The Cautious Maiden is also very much a story of forgiveness, as they learn to continually forgive each other and themselves.

The Cautious Maiden is enjoyable just as a historical romance but it's even more so if you like stories about people, about life, and about discovering what love really is.

Nancy Drew and Ted Nickerson solve a kidnapping case of a wealthy elderly lady. Ted has to disguise himself as a nurse while Nancy beomse a "widow" in order to locate the lady they are rescuing.

I was born nearly 60 years after Nancy Drew's first mystery story, The Secret Of The Old Clock, came out. The best known TV show came out in the before I was born. I am part of the generation that started playing the Nancy Drew PC games, and still eagerly awaits each new release. Rumor has it that there may be another TV series featuring a new incarnation of the world's most famous girl detective. My point is that there is something enduring about this character. 4 generations of girls have grown up with the detective.
I have read all of the yellow hardcover books, seen all the episodes in the 70's TV show, watched the 2007 movie, and have around half of the games. As you can see, I'm a Nancy Drew fan.

Only 8 years after the first book same out a series of 4 movies based on the girl detective were released. I have to say that for 30's movies they are actually pretty good quality. Sure, the scripts are kinda corny but the filming technique is great and the stories are cute. I'm a fan of classic movies so Nancy Drew: Detective, and the others, were right down my alley. This movie is a must watch for all fans of the girl detective.

Life....and love....

I've been a fan of Margaret Daley's for several years now. I've mostly read her romantic suspense books, which I highly recommend, but I've also enjoyed her more sweet romances featuring pets and families just as well. This book has plenty of both, I mean, what could possibly go wrong when you toss two little girls, a dog, AND and handful of kittens into the mix?!

The Firefighter Daddy is delightful, fun, sweet romance. It was the perfect way to while away a few hours on a cool, rainy, fall day. There are also some poignant moments dealing with the love and loss that happens as beloved family members age and have more problems. Having seen some of this with my grandpa those scenes were especially close to home, and they made me think about him and remember the great times and how much my grandpa loved family above all else.

Monday Movie - The Little Colonel

After Southern belle Elizabeth Lloyd runs off to marry Yankee Jack Sherman, her father, a former Confederate colonel during the Civil War, vows to never speak to her again. Several years pass and Elizabeth returns to her home town with her husband and young daughter. The little girl charms her crusty grandfather and tries to patch things up between him and her mother.

This is one Shirley Temple film that I've only seen a couple of times. And I was quite surprised to recognize the familiar, and very distinctive, voice of Lionel Barrymore, think It's A Wonderful Life and Key Largo. The Colonel Sanders look was kind of weird but there was no mistaking that voice.

The interaction between the gruff Lionel Barrymore and the adorable Shirley Temple is actually quite fun to watch. That little girl gives just as good as she gets. And you won't want to miss 'Mr. Bojangles' (Bill Robinson) as he dances with Shirley and gets some of the funniest lines, as does Hattie McDaniel whom you'll recognize from Gone With The Wind.

This movie, like most 1930's movies is not politically correct in the slightest. But it is a wonderful look into a bygone era and also into some of the earliest films aimed mostly at children.

The Little Colonel is probably not one of Shirley Temple's best known films, and the storyline is not always very plausible, but fans of the curly haired little actress will want to watch it at least once.

Fiction...or today's headlines?

I started The Domino Effect excited to read another Davis Bunn book but also wondering if it was going to be totally over my head. The world of high finance is something I know absolutely nothing about, except that there are a lot of crooks in high places. I needn't have worried. Once again, Davis Bunn has taken a hard to understand topic ripped from the headlines and made it understandable for even someone like me. Readers will find a word of caution, some sound advice, and a touch of hope within the entertaining pages of a novel.

Past and present merge...

Anyone that knows me will tell you right off that I LOVE history, even those dry and boring dates in dusty old books. They'd also probably warn you that I get a little bit too enthusiastic about my volunteer work in my local museum. Those two things are what first drew to me to Denise Weimer's latest series called The Restoration Trilogy. Well, more like got me hooked before I even read the first one. And believe me, when I did read them I enjoyed Widow just as much as I did the first book.

I loved learning about Georgia history, historical architecture, all of the fascinating references to historical herbs and medicines, and especially the way Denise Weimer so quickly re-immersed me into the Jennifer’s world. Widow is by no means a dry book filled with nothing but historical details, it is a rich and lovely story. A story that I truly enjoyed from page one to the very last. The only problem? I have to wait impatiently for the final book in the series. Very, VERY impatiently wait...

A killer is closer than they think...

I've been looking forward to Silent Sabotage for quite awhile, ever since I first saw that mysterious and even slightly spooky looking house on the cover. Not only did the story not disappoint but it happened yet again! It seems like every new Susan Sleeman book I read becomes my favorite.

As with each of her stories Silent Sabotage starts out with a real bang, readers are dropped into the danger and mystery right off and after that you can only gasp as you breathlessly turn the pages to find out what happens next. This book shows off Susan Sleeman's talent for grabbing her readers' attention and not letting it go until the exciting and romantic conclusion. And with this one, readers will be left reeling as the villain is revealed during the tense climax.

Fans, like me, of her First Responders series from Love Inspired Suspense are sure to enjoy this book and will anxiously look forward to the next one. Don't miss Silent Sabotage or any of Susan Sleeman's other wonderful romantic suspense stories!

I've never really read a spy thriller before, at least to the best of my recall, but when one of my favorite authors, A.J. Terry, came out with the Agent Ko Spy Thriller series I, of course, gave the genre a try. There is just something about Ko that keeps me coming back, even though I know at least some of where she ends up. I can't help but root for her and want things to work out well for her even though the things she faces and detestable choices that she must make, or die, would normally make her a villain in my book. But I just can't help being sympathetic to her plight! That should tell you right there just how amazingly talented A.J. Terry is as a writer.

In Simulation readers go with Ko as she faces unimaginable circumstances and tests in the effort to reach Zenith at the academy. While not a strictly a Christian fiction book seeds of Christianity are planted in Ko's life, seeds that readers will wonder if it is even possible to grow. Simulation is a quick intense read that left me, and will leave you, gasping and anxiously looking for the next book.
