A collection of lost books holds the clues
to her family's legacy…and her future.
Hope Sparrow has mastered the art of outrunning her tragic past, learning never to stay anywhere too long and never to allow anyone control over her life again. Coming to Wanishin Falls in search of her family's history already feels too risky. But somewhere in the towering stacks of this dusty old bookshop are the books that hold Hope's last ties to her late mother—and to a rumored family treasure that could help her start over.
Only, the bookshop is in shambles, and the elderly owner is in the beginning stages of dementia and can’t remember where the books lie. To find the last links to the loved ones she's lost, Hope must stay and accept help from the townsfolk to locate the treasured volumes. Each secret she uncovers brings her closer to understanding where she came from. But the longer she stays in the quaint town, the more people find their way into the cracks in her heart. And letting them in may be the greatest risk of all… |

I have been an avid reader for three decades, I learned to read at a young age and in childhood used to devour children's mysteries by the half dozen every week. So, when I saw the title of this Love Inspired debut novel from Mollie Rushmeyer I was completely intrigued and I knew that The Bookshop Of Secrets wasn't going to remain a secret for long...
I was not sure what to expect when I first opened this book but disappointment was not an applicable word. To start off, this story was filled with great books and great authors, from childhood favorites like Anne Of Green Gables and Little Women to a couple of guys who were some pretty cool Tolkein nerds. There's nothing like reading about good books within a good book! And then there was the family mystery lost to time with clues hidden in plain sight for decades and some tucked away where you would least expect them.
One of the things that I really appreciated about The Bookshop Of Secrets was Mollie Rushmeyer's oh-so-familiar portrayal of watching a grandparent slip away into the ravages of dementia. She handled it well with both sensitivity and accuracy.
Hope was such a great character – as was Ronan. Both of them have been scarred by some really hard things – in life and as the result of choices – but neither of them is destroyed by the pain. Slowly but surely they battle their way into the light of faith and the love of family and friends.
If you love fiction that takes on some difficult topics as it equally entertains and encourages, if you like a good family mystery paired with a slow and sweet romance, The Bookshop Of Secrets might just be up your alley. It's a genuinely good read that will leave you anticipating more from Love Inspired debut author Mollie Rushmeyer...
Tell Tale Book Reviews gives The Bookshop Of Secrets by Mollie Rushmeyer a 4 Bark rating.
