The relaxing evening she imagined with Luke fueled her determination to hurry home. Next on the agenda was a marvelous dinner. The legwork was prepared that morning. She only had to pop the casserole into the oven and prepare a salad.
The traffic moved at a tortoise’s pace, but Tara eventually rounded the corner to her house. With his hands behind his head and his legs crossed at the ankle, Luke sat on the porch’s top step.
She sprang from the car and dashed toward him.
He met her on the sidewalk.
“Heavy traffic? I almost drove to the park.” He kissed her lips then hauled Tara to his car.
“Get in. We’re late.”
Her brain exploded with possible things that could’ve gone wrong. “Get in? Where to?”
“A mercy mission regarding important stuff.” After tucking her into the passenger seat, Luke headed to his side.
“To do what, go where?” Tara fastened her seat belt while he buckled his.
