What a lovely Bible story book! I would have seriously loved this book as a child. The stories come in a simple, easy to read format and the illustrations are bright and eye-catching. I read it straight through and I found myself enjoying the familiar Bible stories and even some I didn't remember.

While it doesn't replace a real Bible, my parents gave me my first full Bible when I was about 5, The Spirit Of God Illustrated Bible would be perfect for devotions or bedtime reading with young kids or grandkids. It would also be a great one to have around when those kids start reading on their own.

A quality hardcover book with nice glossy pages The Spirit Of God Illustrated Bible would make a good addition to any family's book collection. Even as an adult I enjoyed the simple stories with the accompanying direct quote Bible verses and the lovely illustrations. And the overarching theme of God's power and presence is a good lesson for children to learn young as well as a good reminder for any adult.

My Review

A truly uplifting worship album!

I've been listening to this album for a few days now. Mostly late at night just winding down at the end of the day. There is something relaxing about the praise and worship music on the Whole Heart CD.

I enjoyed all the songs on Whole Heart but did quickly come up with a favorite, Reckless Love, the lyrics and the music blend together to form a song that I suspect I will be listening to over and over.

Over the years, like most people, I've had some trials and difficult times, and one of the things that I've discovered is that when things are tough or stressful, praise and worship music can make a real difference. It can help bring peace when your soul is troubled. I think Passion Music's new album is one of those special CDs that can do just that. Play it in you car, on your laptop, or even quietly while you sleep.

My Review

What a great new praise and worship CD! A little longer than most albums these days, but packed with beautiful music and lyrics. I really enjoyed sitting down and shutting out the sound distractions of daily life as I worked on my computer and just listened. Glory Song is simply restful and just easy to listen to. It didn't take me long to pick out a couple of favorite songs, Greatest Hallelujah and Still I Will Sing, and after finishing the album I went back and listened to them again. If you are looking for a good praise and worship album I highly recommend checking out Matt Redman's latest album, you'll love it!

My Review

This was my second time sitting down with my family to watch Patterns Of Evidence: Exodus and once again I was amazed. The quality of the production is wonderful! Modern day footage, animations, a dramatic musical score, and excellent narration tie everything together in a visually pleasing show that hardly seems to be a documentary. As with the first time we watched the film, not only did we watch it straight through, but it sparked quite a lively debate amongst family members. One of the things that I truly liked about Patterns Of Evidence: Exodus is the fact that multiple viewpoints are presented, some believe the Bible is the word of God and is fact, some believe that it is a historical work, some believe that the Exodus account is literal, some believe it is metaphorical, and others believe it's an out and out fabrication. No matter what viewpoints you hold personally, this film is interesting, thought provoking, and they do provide some pretty compelling evidence for Exodus having been exactly as the Bible depicted. If you are a history buff like me, enjoy documentaries, or love it when the Bible once again proves to be Truth, Patterns Of Evidence: Exodus is the perfect documentary. It is fascinating and, at least to me, totally riveting. This is a great film for the whole family and would actually make an excellent supplement to a homeschool curriculum. Great film, one that I learn new things each time I watch it, and one that I will watch over again in the future.

Sometimes love comes in quirky packages

When We Last Spoke is a moving tale of the messiness of life, of love and loss, sacrifice and forgiveness, and growing up. Told through the eyes of a little girl, now grown up, we meet a quirky family who never give up through tough circumstances, a family that is broken but hangs onto the most important thing of all, Love.

I really enjoyed the way Marci Henna so authentically told the story through the perspective of young Juliet. The style of writing drew me into the late 1960's world of small-town Texas and into the way Juliet perceives those, and the world, around her.

I'll quickly say that, to me, the true heroes of When We Last Spoke were Ruby and Walt. Through loss, difficult times, the hard work of Texas ranch life, they hold onto their deep love for each other and for family. The poignant moments when Walt and Ruby teach Juliet and Evangeline about life are truly moving.

There are a few instances of mild language but they were not off-putting in the least. It only made the story seem more accurate to me.

All in all I liked this step back in time to 60's small-town with author Marci Henna. The story was an enjoyable and I hope to see more stories about Fireside, Texas.

DVD: The booktrailer on this DVD is just lovely. I watched it before I started the book and now that I've finished I think I'll watch it again with new eyes.

My Review

I was totally thrilled to get the chance at this great review opportunity and I enjoyed every bit of it!
Since there are no Family Christian stores nearby I did what most people in my rural area do – I went online. The website is easy to find and even easier to navigate, even with my old computer. I spent hours happily browsing products and reading book descriptions. The sheer diversity of products on the site is amazing! Fiction and non-fiction books for all tastes, DVDs for all ages, music CDs, coloring books, décor, gifts, clothing, jewelry, accessories, Church items, and even craft supplies/tools. Much like the days of mail-order catalogs I looked at pictures and carefully chose the items I wanted to order. I picked out two novels from vastly different genres, a t-shirt, and a DVD.
The checkout process was totally painless and couldn't have been easier. I had no problems and it only took a few minutes. Each step was clearly laid out and easy to follow.
I was totally blown away at how quickly my box came. I had chosen economy shipping and expected at least a week, or more since I live in a rural state, but it came in only a few days. The packaging was excellent and my items arrived in perfect condition.
In summary Family Christian has a great selection and prices, an easy to use website, and I absolutely wouldn't hesitate to order again.

Finding Normal DVD
I love this movie! Needless to say I had the package open and we watched it the night it arrived. It's a great family movie with a plenty of small town fun, romance, and even a great plug for homeschooling. Hey, you really can't go wrong with a Candace Cameron Bure film.

Sweet Land Of Liberty Adult T-Shirt
I'm not usually into bright colors but I fell in love with this t-shirt as soon as I saw it. It's even better in person! A generous fit, the fabric has a nice soft feel, and it's lightweight without being transparent. I'll wear this one all summer and not just on July 4th.

My Review

Life lessons from quilts & family...

I'm not overly into devotionals, despite learning how to read with a kids one and a Bible, but as soon as I heard about My Mother's Quilts I knew I had to read it. I was immediately attracted to this book by the simple word 'quilts'. I'm no good myself but I have quilting in my blood, both my grandma and great grandma have made many a quilt for various family members.

One thing I would like to say is just how beautiful this book really is. When I first opened the package with my copy I was totally impressed with the lovely cover/dustjacket, the quality of the hardcover binding, the glossy pages tinted to match the quilt in each little chapter, the gorgeous photos, and the easy to read text. This is a book that you'll want to leave out to reread and not just set aside like you would an average devotional once you are done with it.

On top of that Ramona Richards has put together an easy to read and interesting book tying in a Scripture verse, life lessons she has learned from the quilts and people in her life, a little prayer starter, and of course lovely photos of the quilts mentioned. I also loved how she would list the quilt pattern featured in each 'chapter'.

I actually read My Mother's Quilts straight through, going through two or three quilts in each sitting. Sometimes funny, sometimes poignant, Ramona Richards shares her heart and heritage in this lovely little book that any quilter or quilt lover will be sure to appreciate.

Learn about patience from Esther...

What a lovely way to bring the story of Esther alive to a new generation of little girls in need of some real heroes to look up to. When I was a little girl in Sunday School, flannel graphs were still the thing, but as fun as those were, the Bible Belles series goes far beyond those days to feature some really nice up-to-date illustrations that will appeal to today's girls. This book is also the perfect length for a bedtime story, just don't forget to do all the voices. Great story, great illustrations, great lesson to be learned.

Obviously I'm not exactly the target age for this book, but....sometimes it's fun to pop out the norm and just go for it.

The League And The Lantern is a book that I would have totally loved as a tween and I still got totally into the story even as an adult reader. It is wild, action-packed adventure sure to keep readers of any page breathlessly turning the pages as fast as they can.
Another thing I have to say is that this is one beautiful book, it's hardcover with a totally eye-catching dust jacket, and is one that will likely hold up to lots of reading.

My Review

I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I started Captive. I mean, I do remember hearing about this when it happened but a 30 second news blip doesn't even begin to cover the story. What I watched was a moving and powerful story about a woman with train-wrecked life who comes to a crossroads when the unthinkable happens.

Dramatic, nail-biting. The acting is just so good that I could feel the anger and the fear rolling off the screen. One of the things that really stood out to me in this movie is the power of the written and spoken word. It is Ashley's giving voice to the words of the book that makes the difference, not only to Brian Nichols but also to Ashley herself.

Captive is a gritty and inspiring film. One that would actually be a great movie for parents and older teens to watch together. And you won't soon forget...

We all have a purpose and we all have choices...

My Review

WOW!

I've never been so enthusiastic about a documentary! I love history, the Bible, and archeology, and to find them all on one DVD was great! The quality of the filming, the animations, reenactments, and the way the entire subject was handled, were quite impressive.

As I watched things I'd read years ago came back to mind and I was excited to learn so many new facts. Most of the archaeological finds mentioned were totally new to me. An entire treasure trove of history, history that supports the Bible, was opened up before me.
The film is told in such a way that layman can easily understand and it would be a great homeschool supplement.

One of the things I really appreciated, though, was how the filmmaker drew information and even opinions from such diverse people. From Egyptologists and archaeologists to world leaders from Israel. Christian and agnostic. Those who believe the Biblical account is accurate and those who don't. Ultimately it is a search for the truth.

I really enjoyed Patterns Of Evidence and you can bet that I will be watching it more than once. It is one of those rare films that I know I'll be able to take away something different each time I watch it.

My Review

The adventures continue!

Excitement! Danger! The fate of the world is in the hands of two teens, can they succeed? Pirate's Code is a great action/spy film aimed at kids. None of the rude humor or other negative content in similar movies but lots of thrilling moments punctuated by bits of humor.

Pirate's Code is the second Mickey Matson adventure and picks up one year later. One of the things I really appreciated was that the main characters are all played by the same actors as the first film. Mickey starts out the movie longing for another adventure, and, boy, does he get more than he bargained for. Secrets come out and there are new villains to defeat.

Themes of family, friendship, working together, patriotism, and sacrifice are woven into a tale of derring-do that is sure to thrill young people. Hey, even parents can enjoy the adventure and the cool spy-type gear.

Great action movie entertainment for families. Got kids or grandkids? Movie night and nothing to watch? Why not pick Pirate's Code and for an evening of fun.

I had all six of the May Love Inspired contemporary releases sitting in front me. All equally good books but I had to start somewhere so I chose one at random. I'm glad I picked Bachelor To The Rescue first, it's about a librarian and the Friends of the Library play a big part in some important scenes. Now, I love librarians but I am also a Friend of the Library so this book was a little extra special.

Lorraine Beatty has written a sweet romantic tale of love, forgiveness, and moving on. Tragedy binds Lainie and Shaw, circumstance brings them together. Forgiveness can mean the world to them both.

Sweet story, perfect for an evening when you want a light read with a happy ending. Read Bachelor To The Rescue to find out what happens when you mix two little girls, a willing dog, a princess club, and a guy who can't say no...
