A few years ago I stumbled onto The Women Of Lancaster series in the library, it introduced me to two talented authors that I would enjoy in their collaborative as well as individual works. Needless to say, I was quite excited when I found out that Mindy Starns Clark & Leslie Gould would be adding to that series I had enjoyed so much. Since I come from a line of quilters I was even more thrilled to find that this book would feature a quilter.

Even better than I anticipated, The Amish Quilter was such a great read. I really identified with the heroine, Linda, which is actually pretty odd for me. I started out by keeping this book on my bedside table and read it for a few minutes when going to bed at night and waking up in the morning. It really didn't take long before the other book I was reading during the daytime got laid aside in favor of The Amish Quilter.

In this book Mindy Starns Clark & Leslie Gould bring a dash of realism that isn't always found in the Amish genre. Not every character has a sugary sweet happy ending but faith and hope, despite mistakes made, are what stand the test of time and the sometimes tough reality of life. Which, is a good reminder for all of us...

Can the Talbot family survive the upheaval?

Time Slip novels are not the easiest to write, some tend to be stronger in either the historical or contemporary sections of the story, but the team of Mindy Starns Clark and Leslie Gould masterfully handles the hurdles of this genre. My Daughter's Legacy is a perfect example, and a perfectly great read!

I fell in love with the Talbot family as they historically navigated religious persecution and in the contemporary time period began to solve a mystery that has plagued four of the Talbot girls for years. I loved how these two authors brought all of those threads together in My Daughter's Legacy and wove them into a tapestry of danger and romance that affects generations of Talbots, and, finally brings to light some shocking answers that have been over a century in the making.

If Time Slip novels are your thing, or even if you are new to them, I highly recommend the Cousins Of The Dove series. Mindy Starns Clark and Leslie Gould write sympathetically about the struggles and the triumphs of women centuries apart, and yet, those struggles and triumphs really are the same in all eras. You just won't want to miss this book and this series!

#1. Tell us a little about yourself, your family, friends.
I’m a Southern belle who grew up outside of Richmond, Virginia and then attended finishing school in Richmond—until the war started and the school closed. My father, who recently died, was a Northerner so I’d been exposed to ideas that were, well, different than what most of our friends and neighbors held. My brother, Warner, is off fighting for the Confederacy, and now my mother and I are barely surviving. Hopefully this horrific war will end soon.

#2. What is the ONE thing you just CAN'T do without?
My ideals. I’m not the most assertive of Southern Belle’s, not like my friend Polly Talbot, but I can’t ignore pain and suffering. I have to do something to help.

#3. What is your greatest strength and your greatest flaw?
My greatest strength is that I will always do my best to do what is right. My greatest flaw is that I don’t have a natural inclination to nurse others. But, as I work in a Confederate hospital, I’m learning.

#4. What do you most fear?
That no good will come from this dreadful war.

#5. If you could change one thing in your life, past or present, what would it be?
I’ve often wondered what our lives would be like if we’d move to the North, close to my father’s people, instead of staying in Virginia, close to my maternal grandfather and his plantation.

#6. What do you hope that people will learn from your story?
I hope people will understand how important the legacy they leave is to their children, grandchildren,
and great grandchildren.

#7. What is the most important thing to you?
I would have said “family" a year ago, but after losing my father, I came to realize that following the will of my Heavenly Father has to be the most important thing to me. It’s only then that I can serve others, including my remaining family.

Bonus. What one piece of advice would you like to give readers?
Courage is simply doing the right thing. It has nothing to do with bravery. If God calls you to do something, He’ll give you the needed strength.

I ran into the writing partnership of Mindy Starns Clark & Leslie Gould several years ago while perusing the library bookshelves for Christian fiction. I read all of them I could get my hands on, written both together and individually. I was hooked. I had read, and enjoyed, their Amish fiction so I was quite excited to find out that they would be doing a Huguenot series together. I have Huguenot ancestors that fled persecution in France for the religious freedom in America. So, as you can imagine, the Cousins Of The Dove series is a little extra special in my eyes.

As with book 1 in the series, My Sister's Prayer is a split-time story with two different women 300 years apart facing similar situations. Both are strong, both have always been the 'good sister' and tend toward self-righteousness, both have sisters that have made poor decisions, both will go to any lengths to help their sisters, and both must navigate their way through murky to find real love.
At times I became frustrated with Celeste, especially, and wanted to shake some sense into her. Couldn't she see that she was only being used? Didn't she understand who really had her best interests at heart? Can you tell that became emotionally involved with this story?

Mindy Starns Clark & Leslie Gould are wonderful authors and it clearly shows in the seamless rendering of these two stories intertwined in a single novel. Whether you love contemporary or historical novels this book will have you covered. My Sister's Prayer is a wonderful story and a MUST read for Christian fiction fans.

Two talented authors, one great story!

I've been a fan of Leslie Gould and Mindy Starns Clark since I read their Amish stories, I've read their books together and separately, and I've really enjoyed them. As you can imagine I was thrilled when I received their latest book, My Brother's Crown. But I became even more excited when I saw that the story was about a Huguenot family and their modern descendant(s). I have Huguenot ancestors who fled persecution for freedom in America so I have devoured every Christian Fiction book about them that I've found.

Leslie Gould and Mindy Starns Clark have penned a fascinating tale of love, sacrifice, and finding peace. The writing is seamless and I really couldn't tell that there were two authors. They use chapter breaks that are labeled with each girl's name to differentiate between them and it was really easy to follow. My Brother's Crown has the best of both of my favorite genres, Renee must solve mysteries from both her childhood and family history, and Catherine lives during one of the most dangerous times in Christian history.

My Brother's Crown is a a great read whether you like contemporary with a dash of mystery and romance or historical with a dash of romance and danger. Leslie Gould and Mindy Starns Clark are two very talented authors and I can't wait to find out what they have in store for book 2.
