It's always fun to try a new-to-me author, especially when it's their Love Inspired Suspense debut. These slim little novels are always a quick enjoyable read and Border Breach was very much so. The action starts out on page one and doesn't let up for readers or for Kaylin and Hudson. Of course, the romantic sparks are pretty lively, too.

I think one of my favorite things about the story was the setting. How many Love Inspired Suspense books, or any other Christian novels for that matter, are set in Canada? Outside of Janette Oke, not many. Which is another thing I really appreciated about Border Breach, author Darlene L. Turner is Canadian herself and it really lends authenticity to her story and her characters.

When books become real...

When I was a little girl my mom taught me that the books I read would become a part of me. Fast forward 25 years to this past week. What she said really came home when I felt a little guilty buying the bottle in the left picture after reading the book in the right-hand pic. If you've read Elizabeth Camden's wonderful book The Spice King you will know precisely why I had that emotion...

What was the inspiration for this book?
The miraculous ways of God. The big miracles and the often daily small ones that I have overlooked more than once!

What drew you to write in this particular genre?
I love speculative fiction and fantasy that are faith oriented, and I had an idea for a story that fit into that category. And I just had to write it.

Do you have favorite character(s) in this book?
I do love the main character Rikk, with all his internal conflicts, and I love Vinnt, whose strong faith inspires me!

What do you hope your readers will take away with them when they read this book?
I hope they see that it’s pretty normal for a believer to have doubts and fears and to undergo extreme tests, and also that there are miracles waiting for them as their journey continues.

What is the ONE thing you just CAN'T do without?
God’s love and daily internal guidance!

I feel that these difficult times the world is going through will serve to strengthen those who are believers and make us better able to help others turn towards God. His love is waiting for them!

I’ve always been drawn to the miraculous aspects of life and creation. I think almost all children experience this, but over time we become so busy and distracted that we lose the awareness of how miraculous life really is. I’m no different. Modern life is pretty demanding!

I love good movies, and I realized over time that there were a great many super-hero movies and movies with Messianic-themed heroes. It made me aware of how human beings hunger to reconnect with that sense of awe we had as children. We all need a relationship with God, not just for His abiding love and hope, the promise of eternal life, and help with the challenges of this mortal life, but to be connected to the Author of the miraculous.

That’s what inspired me to write the Fierce Land series. The scriptures are full of miracles and interventions as well as the heartfelt prayers of humans trying to learn God’s ways and overcome their own internal struggles. And that’s what this series explores, within the framework of a world that is not modern but faces many of the same issues people have always faced. I hope the story is a blessing to those who read it, and that it helps to remind us that our lives are full of miracles.

My Review

A simple flight home...or not...

My confession about Terror In The Skies is that I didn't even bother to read the blurb before picking up the book. All I really had to see was Alana Terry's name on the cover and I knew that it was an e-book I wanted to read. Needless to say, because I didn't read that blurb I was quite surprised to find out that this novella featured Willow's perspective of the hijacking in Alana Terry's Kennedy Stern novel Turbulence.

Yeah, you know Willow, Kennedy's blue haired wild child of a roommate. The girl I couldn't really disagree with more on pretty much everything but I also couldn't help loving. Yep, that Willow. Terror In The Skies is her story of how she must make a life altering choice as she stares death in the face.

When I first started reading Terror In The Skies, which is the first novella in the Turbulent Skies series, I didn't realize that it was a novella. As with pretty much every other Alana Terry book I couldn't put it down, finishing in about an hour or so. I know I was pretty surprised when I looked down and saw that I was 48% done and I could have sworn I had just started.

Anyway, great suspense story from a great author. I can't wait to read the rest of the Turbulent Skies series as I know it will be a good one.

I’m excited to share my new Turbulent Skies Christian Thriller novella series with all of you! The inspiration behind this series came when I was taking a flight a few years ago … and indulging in one of my favorite past times – people watching! As I looked at the various passengers around me, I started to wonder about their lives … and it was from that line of thinking this novella series was born!

I first wrote a book about a terrifying experience on board an airplane years earlier, (Turbulence, Book #5 in the Kennedy Stern series) and because many members of my amazing Readers’ Club had been asking me to write a book featuring Willow, one of their favorite characters from the Kennedy Stern series, it seemed fitting that Willow gets to be the star in the first of these novellas.

Terror in the Skies is Willow’s story. She’s a chic Alaskan college student, a free spirit who finds herself sharing a dorm room with a conservative Christian missionary kid. Willow first makes her appearance in the Kennedy Stern Christian suspense series, meaning that over a hundred thousand readers have met her!

I can’t tell you too much about this life-of-the-party aspiring actress (mostly because I don’t want to spoil anything for you if you happen to still be making your way through the Kennedy Stern books). But I can tell you she is the first main character in this six-book novella series that helps answer the question: “Who are you really sitting next to hundreds of feet up in the air?”

Maybe, like me, after reading this series, you’ll never look at your fellow passengers the same way!
