Suspense/Paranormal/Spiritual Warfare
Darkness Rising
An East Salem Novel book 2
by Lis Wiehl with Pete Nelson
-From the back cover- THE EVIL IN EAST SALEM IS NO LONGER CONTENT TO HIDE IN THE SHADOWS. THE STAKES – AND THE DARKNESS – ARE RISING. Dani Harris thought there wasn't much left that could surprise her after serving as a forensic psychiatrist in East Salem. And Tommy Gunderson has faced few challenges in his life that he couldn't overcome by either physical strength or his celebrity status. But as they race to uncover what's really happening behind the high walls of St. Adrian's Academy, it becomes clear that supernatural forces have been at work here for generations. And now their focus is on making sure Dani and Tommy don't interfere. When the unseen becomes seen, faith is the only weapon strong enough to fight in a battle involving not just murder and betrayal – but angels and demons. You might want to leave the lights on tonight... Blending Bible, history, legend, and spiritual forces that usually remain unseen this book is an intense and riveting read that is completely impossible to put down. I had thought the first book in the series, Waking Hours, a bit slow in a couple of spots. Darkness Rising takes everything from Waking Hours and seriously ramps it up, the danger, action, romance, AND the angelic/demonic activity. Just wait until you find out what the attachments on a couple of Swiss Army knives can do! Readers will get to reconnect with many of the same characters, both good and evil, from the first book and will be introduced to some new ones. This book features a diverse cast, the good guys are a bit of a motley crew but each brings important knowledge and gifts that will help them defeat the enemy. Questions are answered and more light is shed on what is going on at St. Adrian's Academy but many more questions arise that will have to be answered in the last book, The Final Tide. Honestly, just when you think you know where this book is going the author throws a curve-ball....or several. Though I didn't always quite agree with everything used as weapons in the battles, especially the last half of the book, the authors do an amazing job of showing just how real the spiritual realm really is, and how easy it can be even for Christians to be tricked/used by the enemy. A paranormal/spiritual warfare book in the tradition of Frank Peretti, Darkness Rising is a book you won't want to miss.
