My Review
Madness is in the eye of the beholder...
So, the first thing I'll admit is that I don't read a lot of YA-type books. Not even when I was still in the target age-range. But every so once in awhile I'll pick one up that sounds interesting. The Gifting was one such book. The idea of a teen girl experiencing the supernatural realm is not new to me but is still intriguing.
I really wasn't sure what to expect when I started listening. K.E. (Katie) Ganshert is an author I've known about but haven't read any of her books yet. Let me tell you, she is GOOD!
The Gifting is actually a pretty chilling read, or as in my case, listen. The world Tessa lives in is eerily similar to today, the same brands and the same technology, and yet so different. This is what our world can become if we continue down the path we seem to be on. The questions and opinions of the characters in this book will definitely get you thinking about your own stance, no matter what your age.
This is a book that can appeal to readers of all ages, while there are plenty of very teen moments it shouldn't lose adult readers.
I listened to the Audible version of this book and it was good! The narrator had a great voice to represent the teenage Tessa, and she did a great job giving each character their own tones and inflections.
This book is out of my usual genre but I'm glad I listened to it and I hope to 'read' the rest of the books in K.E. Ganshert's mind-stretching The Gifting series.
