Fiction Full of Grace
A Home For Lydia by Vannetta Chapman
Book 2 in The Pebble Creek Amish series.
Normally there would only be 5 questions + the Bonus but I felt that leaving out any of Vannetta's wonderful answers would be a shame. #1. What was the inspiration for this book? Probably that we were caring for my father-in-law who had Alzheimer's. He went to be with the Lord in the fall of 2012. It's such a blessings and also so difficult to care for someone in the last years of their life. #2. How long did it take to finish writing this book? Approximately 4 months, and then the re-writes from my editors. #3. Do you have favorite character(s)? I adore both Lydia and Aaron. So many people think Amish women are quiet and submissive. I've met some pretty opinionated Amish women - and I wanted to show that side. #4. What do you hope your readers will take away with them when they read this book? That we can't begin to imagine what God has in store for us. #5. What made you choose the specific location(s) for this book? I love the idea of setting a series around a river or creek. SW Wisconsin is full of them and they are beautiful - thus Pebble Creek Series. #6. How did you name your characters? I steal names. If I hear one I love, I jot it down. I also watch The Budget and I have a baby book. #7. Tell us something funny, sad, embarrassing, whatever, that happened involving this book. When I was in Wisconsin, my B&B owner took me to meet this Amish man and his family. He talked to us quite a while, and he related a story about a boy with farmer's lung (which is what Lydia's dad suffers from in the story). The story he told me is one of God's grace and his power to perform miracles, and I wanted to share some of that - so I created Lydia's dad. Bonus. Share with us a thought, Bible verse, whatever is on your mind/heart. God offers endless mercy and grace to us, and we should offer the same to others. This ties in with the end of the book, which I don't want to spoil - but I believe we can all learn to be more Christ-like. Where can readers interact with you?
