Come Back To Me
Waters Of Time book 1
by Jody Hedlund
-From Goodreads- The ultimate cure that could heal any disease? Crazy. That's exactly what research scientist Marian Creighton has always believed about her father's quest, even if it does stem from a desire to save her sister Ellen from the genetic disease that stole their mother from them. But when her father falls into a coma after drinking a vial of holy water believed to contain traces of residue from the Tree of Life, Marian must question all of her assumptions. He's left behind tantalizing clues that suggest he's crossed back in time. Insane. Until Marian tests his theories and finds herself in the Middle Ages during a dangerous peasant uprising. William Durham, a valiant knight comes to Marian's rescue and offers her protection . . . as his wife. The longer Marian stays in the past, the more she cares about William. Can she ever find her father and make it back to the present to heal her sister? And when the time comes to leave, will she want to? I have two confessions to get out of the way. First, despite most of my online book friends raving about her books this is the first one that I've read by Jody Hedlund. The second is that I've never really been into time travel stories, sure, I've read a few but they are not something I usually gravitate towards. However, there was just something about Come Back To Me that really caught my attention. It was probably the eye-catching cover that Bethany House designed, one of my favorites so far this year, that started it all, but still...
I started Come Back To Me with my eyes wide open. Few authors take on time travel and even fewer do so successfully. And because this was my first Jody Hedlund book I had no illusions and nothing to color my expectations. I did, however, know that Bethany House invariably puts out really good books no matter the genre. I was not disappointed in any way...
The story was very well written, modern thread and historical alike. I genuinely cared about the characters. I also thought I had the villain figured out, but, boy, was I wrong! But, what I loved the most was the era that Jody Hedlund chose for her first Waters Of Time book. The Peasants Revolt. Not an era usually chosen, a lot is known about it but there's also lots of room for speculation and for storytelling. I also appreciated how she kept the belief in miracles prevalent at that time alive and unjudged by today's rationalism. So, yes, I very much enjoyed Come Back To Me and I'm definitely looking forward to the next Waters Of Time novel...
