Double Blind
by Brandilyn Collins
-From The Back Cover- Desperate People Make Desperate Choices. Twenty-nine-year-old Lisa Newberry can barely make it through the day. Suddenly widowed and the survivor of a near-fatal attack, she is wracked with grief and despair. Then she hears of a medical trial for a tiny brain chip that emits electrical pulses to heal severe depression. At rope's end Lisa offers herself as a candidate. When she receives her letter of acceptance for the trial, Lisa is at first hopeful. But...brain surgery. Can she really go through with that? What if she receives the placebo? What if something far worse goes wrong? Written in the relentless style for which Brandilyn Collins is known, Double Blind is a psychological thriller with mind-bending twists. Lisa faces choices that drive her to the brink, and one wrong move could cost the lives of many. Once again Brandilyn Collins delivers a fast-paced, action packed, page turning, can't put it down story. I have enjoyed pretty much every Brandilyn Collins I have read but I think this is the best one so far. This book is full of emotion; you feel the terror, desperation, and anger along with Lisa. As someone who has not suffered from severe depression it was fascinating to get into Lisa's mind and understand the how and why. First debilitating depression and then terrifying dreams/visions, despite all this Lisa genuinely wants and tries to help the murdered woman in her visions. | This book earned a 4 Bark Rating. |
Another interesting relationship Lisa has is with her best friend Sherry. Sherry is the epitome of a good friend. No matter what Lisa goes through and how withdrawn she becomes, Sherry is there supporting, defending, and helping. Not only do I wish I had a friend like her, I also want to BE such a friend.
Double Blind does bring up some difficult and thoroughly modern issues. Is manipulating the human mind right? How far should doctors go in the name of research?
The question is: How far would you go for healing? Would you make the same choice Lisa did?
Tell Tale Book Reviews gives Double Blind by Brandilyn Collins a 4 Bark rating.
