I ran into the writing partnership of Mindy Starns Clark & Leslie Gould several years ago while perusing the library bookshelves for Christian fiction. I read all of them I could get my hands on, written both together and individually. I was hooked. I had read, and enjoyed, their Amish fiction so I was quite excited to find out that they would be doing a Huguenot series together. I have Huguenot ancestors that fled persecution in France for the religious freedom in America. So, as you can imagine, the Cousins Of The Dove series is a little extra special in my eyes.
As with book 1 in the series, My Sister's Prayer is a split-time story with two different women 300 years apart facing similar situations. Both are strong, both have always been the 'good sister' and tend toward self-righteousness, both have sisters that have made poor decisions, both will go to any lengths to help their sisters, and both must navigate their way through murky to find real love.
At times I became frustrated with Celeste, especially, and wanted to shake some sense into her. Couldn't she see that she was only being used? Didn't she understand who really had her best interests at heart? Can you tell that became emotionally involved with this story?
Mindy Starns Clark & Leslie Gould are wonderful authors and it clearly shows in the seamless rendering of these two stories intertwined in a single novel. Whether you love contemporary or historical novels this book will have you covered. My Sister's Prayer is a wonderful story and a MUST read for Christian fiction fans.
