If there's one thing that I love about Amy Lillard's Amish fiction it's that her characters all come across as real people. They are not all cookie cutter perfection in looks or personality – and in the Paradise Valley series the heroines and heroes come in a variety of ages. In short, they are relatable. As expected, One More Time For Joy featured everything that I've come to enjoy in this series.
I love how Amy Lillard focuses more on her characters – with all of their quirks and foibles – and how they grow and learn in their day to day lives. The Amish world isn't always simplistic whoopie pies and and cheery handmade quilts. Nope, the heroine and hero of One More Time For Joy are both single parents – with several kids ranging from little to teens – trying to balance home and work in the businesses that they own. And then, there's Johnny. His world has been turned upside down twice and his mother seems to be having as difficult a time coming to terms with it as he is.
This third Paradise Valley novel was definitely on the heart-tugging side. A person can't help feeling involved in the lives of the two branches of the Lehman family and wanting the best for them. So, overall One More Time For Joy was a good read. I am definitely looking forward to seeing where Amy Lillard will take her residents of Paradise Valley in the next book...
