One of the most important themes that stood out to me personally is the effect of family - or the lack thereof. Many of these girls would never have been in the position if their parent(s) had actually cared enough about them. Many girls easily become targets of predators because their own family life is so awful that they become desperate for love and will look for it from any source. Not all families are to blame but many parents do not comprehend what effect their words and actions have on their children, that sometimes a little time and encouragement can go a long way in literally saving the life of their child.
A few times the switch between viewpoints caught me off guard and I had to go back a few sentences to figure things out. Once I got into the swing of things the story was gripping and difficult to put down.
Imaginative and unexpected, Stranger Things is a powerful and thought provoking book. Long after the last page has been turned the reader will find themselves thinking back to a line or a scene.
