#1. What was the inspiration for this book?
I wrote a feature story for a hunting blog about a hunter in Georgia who hunts massive wild hogs using nothing but dogs and a knife. I actually tell his story at the conclusion of my novel. I wanted to write a story about media bias that will engage the culture. So, I wrote about this guy who hunts hogs and how the media reacts to his hunting. Of course, there’s much more to the story. It’s intended to entertain yet educate, inform and perhaps enlighten readers about current issues, especially how dark and bias our media has become.

He’s an out-of-the-box kind of hero—caring, considerate, crazy smart, kind of a savage, yet vulnerable and teachable. |  |

I didn’t “come up” with the idea for Lawson’s Bluff. The idea found me after I published a piece about a hunter in Georgia who hunts wild boars with dogs and a knife. Like character Jack Lawson, he never carries a gun, preferring, instead, to tackle the hog and slay it the old-fashioned way. So, as with previous novels, I didn’t write this one either. The story wrote me. I had no clue where the story was going until informed … by the story. This approach is what makes life interesting, I think. And what makes novels interesting, too—twisting action and romance in unpredictable settings.
