An Amish Husband For Tillie
Amish Of Pontotoc book 4
by Amy Lillard
-From Goodreads- For the Amish of Pontotoc, Mississippi, all roads lead to faith, family, and tradition, even when the path is unconventional—especially at Christmas . . . Tillie Gingerich is so in love with Melvin Yoder that she agrees to leave her conservative Amish home to live with him in the English world. But when the struggle to make ends meet leads to conflict, and reveals troubling weaknesses in their relationship, Tillie returns to Pontotoc—pregnant and unmarried. Her loving family accepts her, but to convince the rest of the community, they must turn to the bishop. Distraught, Tillie runs away on Christmas Eve—only to get as far as an isolated house on the edge of town. Levi Yoder, Melvin’s upright distant cousin, is grieving the loss of his wife and wants to be alone. He is hardly pleased to open his door and find a pregnant woman––a painful reminder of all he’s lost. But with an ice storm approaching, he can’t turn Tillie away. Yet as morning nears, the miracle of Christmas brings unexpected challenges, opportunities—and promises for the future . . . I liked Tillie and Levi right off. Tillie has made some mistakes but she wants nothing more than to return to her family and faith and to raise her baby there. Levi has been brought low by tragedy but when it counts the most he steps outside of his own pain to help. They both have honest questions about where God is in the hard times and what He asks of us. Definitely things that most people ask at various points in their lives.
There were a couple of things I wondered about but they didn't change my enjoyment of the story. The biggest one was whether marriage would really be more important to the Amish than a young woman's faith and her repentant return to the church? But, then, a good book does make you think, wonder, question.
I think one of my favorite things about An Amish Husband For Tillie was that it didn't focus solely on romance. Amy Lillard drew the relationship out slowly, allowing Levi time to start healing and Tillie to deal with the consequences of her choices.
If you are looking for a sweet Amish romance set at Christmastime you should definitely check out this fourth book in the Amish Of Pontotoc series. As with the previous books it's a good one.
