Deception
Natchez Trace Park Rangers book 4
by Patricia Bradley
-From Amazon- After being forced to kill an FBI agent gone rogue in self-defense while working in the violent crimes unit for the Investigative Services Branch, ranger Madison Thorn is comfortable with her move to the fraud and cyber division. At least numbers don't lie. So she's less than thrilled when a white-collar crime investigation in Natchez, Mississippi, turns violent. She could also do without being forced to work with former-childhood-enemy-turned-infuriatingly-handsome park ranger Clayton Bradshaw. When a woman who looks just like Madison is attacked on the same night Madison's grandfather is shot, it becomes clear that there is something much bigger going on here and that Madison herself is in danger. Madison and Clayton will have to work together--and suppress their growing feelings for one another--if they are to discover the truth before it's too late. USA Today bestselling and award-winning author Patricia Bradley closes out her popular Natchez Trace Park Rangers series with this complex story of family secrets, mixed motives, and learning to trust. I've always been a sap for decades-old family secrets stories, probably comes from too many Nancy Drew books of that variety when I was a kid, and Deception must be the queen of that particular genre. Patricia Bradley had me coming and going from the very start. There were so many different threads to the fourth Natchez Trace Park Rangers novel that I even wondered a time or two if they would all be sewn up by the end of the book. What does a self-defense killing have to do with a doppleganger, and, for that matter what do both have to do with purchase orders that don't tally with the goods received or the secrets that Madison's father and grandfather are hiding? Just how far will people go to keep their dark secrets hidden? Curious are you?
Deception, and what a perfect title that is for this story, turned out to be even more of a great read than I had anticipated. I've enjoyed each of the Natchez Trace Park Rangers novels that I've read but I think this one is my favorite so far. Patricia Bradley really pulled out the stops with this one and it shows on every romantically suspenseful page.
I honestly don't know if there will be more books in this series but I'm really hoping so...
