Home Before Dark starts out with bang, the heroine running for her life in the dark woods with killers behind, the river ahead, and it only goes from there. I'm usually kind of slow reading e-books but I just breezed through this one. As with all of Christy Barritt's other books I have read, she kept me excitedly turning the page and anxious to find out if my suspicions were correct, who-done-it and why.
I am continually in awe of the variety in Christy Barritt's characters, how flawed, quirky, and real they are. Daleigh's life isn't exactly going her way right now, she can't get along with her hyper-critical sister, her boyfriend isn't there when she needs him, her career is flagging, she is attracted to a small-town guy, and to top it all off it really looks like her dad may have been murdered. But maybe, just maybe, God is moving her in a totally unexpected direction and maybe He will use those bad things for good. Home Before Dark was as much a story of relationships as suspense which was an element I really liked.
Home Before Dark is a wonderful story small-town delights, romance, and mystery. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I can't wait to read book two in the Carolina Moon series. As usual, Christy Barritt has me hooked good!
