heart as counterfeit as the money he’s been sent to track down?
After months of undercover work, Secret Service operative Broderick Cosgrove is finally about to uncover the identity of the leader of a notorious counterfeiting ring. That moment of triumph turns to horror, however, when he finds undeniable proof that his former fiancé is connected. Can he really believe the woman he loved is a willing participant? Protecting Theresa and proving her innocence may destroy his career--but that’s better than failing her twice in one lifetime.
They must form a partnership, tentative though it is. But there’s no question they’re both still keeping secrets--and that lack of trust, along with the dangerous criminals out for their blood, threatens their hearts, their faith, and their very survival.
Combining rich history, danger, suspense, and romance, Crystal Caudill’s debut novel launches this new historical series with a bang. Fans of Elizabeth Camden, Michelle Griep, and Joanna Davidson Politano will be thrilled to find another author to follow!
I'm usually up for a good debut novel. Sometimes they kinda miss the boat for me but many other times I find an author to add to my must read list. This book was one of the latter as I was quite impressed by Counterfeit Love from the very start. Crystal Caudill's storytelling skill is definitely not that of a beginner. She's good!
One of the best things about Counterfeit Love is its flawed characters. While that term is definitely overused it can still be very true. Crystal Caudill's characters can sometimes be naive, temperamental, slow to forgive, stick their feet in their mouths, and make decisions that in hindsight might have been a little on the stupid side. But, it's all of those things that made them seem a little more real and a lot more relatable. And because of those things I liked them all the more.
With elements of historical romance, mystery, and definite Gothic overtones Counterfeit Love may have been a 300+ page read but it went pretty fast – mainly because I didn't feel much like putting it down. I just kept being drawn back in all while telling myself just one more page or just another chapter, I'm sure you know how well that went... Crystal Caudill successfully kept me interested, engaged, and intrigued from beginning to end.
According to the cover Counterfeit Love is only the first book in the Hidden Hearts Of The Gilded Age series and based on this debut effort from Crystal Caudill it's a series that I will be following with anticipation.
Tell Tale Book Reviews gives Counterfeit Love by Crystal Caudill a 4.5 Bark rating.
