Village healer Audrey Moreau is more curious than afraid of the outsider, and she’s drawn to his commitment to honesty even at his own expense. Despite her arguments for his release, the council remains at an impasse. Compelled to help him escape, she sneaks him out of the village. But when Levi faces a life-threatening injury and the fierce mountain winter closes in, Levi and Audrey are forced to discover just how far they’ll go to ensure the safety of the other and the love growing between them.
As I started into A Healer's Promise I wondered if it would be more like the first book in the Brides Of Laurent series or closer to the other Misty M. Beller books that I've read in the past. I was quite happy to discover that it continued the first book's differences such as a larger cast of characters and more time spent in a village setting, while not neglecting the author's familiar storytelling voice.
Of the hero and heroine, I liked Levi the best. He may have been on the wrong side of the Revolutionary War but he's still, to use an old fashioned phrase, a real man of honor. Audrey, however, simultaneously made me like her for her kindness, loyalty, and faith while annoying me no end with her naivete and her what seemed like emotion based decisions that frequently had consequences for more than just her.
A Healer's Promise was a good read. Misty Beller threw in some real surprises that kept me on my toes and interested in the drama and adventure on the printed page. She also left a little hint or two towards the next book in the Brides Of Laurent which has me intrigued and anticipating the next installment in the series.
If you are a fan of Misty M. Beller's other works you'll definitely want to check out her Brides Of Laurent series. A Healer's Promise is the second book so don't forget to read the first. They are both worth a few hours reading time...
Tell Tale Book Reviews gives A Healer's Promise by Misty M. Beller a 4 Bark rating.
