John Wayne ■ Hardy Kruger ■ Elsa Martinelli ■ Red Buttons
Director Howard Hawks reteams with John Wayne, who heads a group of highly-skilled professional game hunters in Africa. Only they don't use bullets -- they capture the ferocious big game with strong ropes and cameras for zoos and circus attractions. It is an exciting, death-defying business that pits man against beast. "Hatari!" means "danger" in Swahili, but Hatari! also means a spectacular adventure film. The fine cast includes Hardy Gruger and Elsa Martinelli, and a sparkling Henry Mancini musical score includes the bouncy pop hit tune, "Baby Elephant Walk."
One of my favorite John Wayne movies, Hatari! is part comedy, part adventure, and all fun!
This is one of the few movies that John Wayne did with little to no violence. I think that is probably one of the main draws for me.
Plenty of comedy and romance and those baby elephants are so cute and funny!
Hatari! is one of those movies my entire family likes to watch over and over.
This movie is a bit on the long side so make sure you set aside a nice long evening and some popcorn when you watch it.

Sean Mercer: Pockets, what are you doing?
Pockets: I'm trying to milk the goat.
Sean Mercer: Well, that's the wrong kind of a goat - that's a ram!
Charles 'Chips' Maurey: [Observing Pockets being fawned over by Brandy] He fell off the fence.
Kurt Muller: Yeah. You nearly lose a leg and I get a dislocated shoulder.
Charles 'Chips' Maurey: And he gets the ice.
Kurt Muller: C'mon I'll buy you a nice warm drink.
