Pat And Mike
starring
Spencer Tracy ■ Katharine Hepburn
Pat's a brilliant athlete, except when her domineering fiance is around. The lady's golf championship is in her reach until she gets flustered by his presence at the final holes. He wants them to get married and forget the whole thing, but she can't give up on herself that easily. She enlists the help of Mike, a slightly shady sports promoter. Together they face mobsters, a jealous boxer, and a growing mutual attraction.
I think Pat And Mike probably has to be one of my favorite Katharine Hepburn / Spencer Tracy pairings. My favorite is definitely going to have to be Desk Set. It features them at their romantic comedic best - and also gives Katharine Hepburn a chance to display her true athleticism. I've never been a fan of movies about sports, OK there are a few exceptions like The Mighty Ducks and Facing The Giants, but Pat And Mike is probably my favorite, and the one that I watch at least once a year. I just love this movie! It's also one that the entire family will watch, even though none of them are sports fans either. That's actually one of the neat things about this film, a number real sports stars from that era make cameo appearances, mostly in the tennis and golf scenes. I love that little touch of realism, and now 65 years later, that addition of who was who in the world of women's sports back then.
This movie is fun in every way and you can really see that Hepburn / Tracy chemistry on the screen. It's one of those films that you can just sit back on the couch, relax, not think too hard, and simply enjoy. So grab that popcorn and settle in to watch one of Hollywood's favorite couples from the Golden Era of Films fall in love in this great black/white comedy.

Mike Conovan: Like I told you - don't feel like running, slow down. You're supposed to feel like it. That shows you're in condition. People do like they feel, they go on sometimes practically forever, some of them. Pat Pemberton: Guess you'll go on practically forever, you stay on that bike.
