Lucky (Fred Astaire) is tricked into missing his wedding to Margaret (Betty Furness) by the other members of Pop's magic and dance act, and has to make $25000 to be allowed to marry her. He and Pop (Victor Moore) go to New York where they run into Penny (Ginger Rogers), a dancing instructor. She and Lucky form a successful dance partnership, but the romance is in danger of never getting off the ground. Lucky is still engaged to Margaret and Ricardo (Georges Metaxa) is in love with Penny so he won't play for them to dance together. This movie is a dancing, comedic, costume, extravaganza! Swing Time is the hilarious adventures and misadventures of a gambler named Lucky trying his best to win the ultimate prize, Ginger. Just when you think he has finally won, he loses her, and when you think he has finally lost her for good, here come some more sparks to keep the romance alive. Around and around this delightful story goes, full of comedic events and witty quips this movie is one of Fred and Ginger's best. Fred taught Ginger how to dance, before their movies she was into comedy acting, and this movie shows just how well he did. Their excellent dancing is definitely showcased in Swing Time.
