throws at us, reveling in the art of faith, grace, and perseverance.
gift of life.
Every so once in awhile a movie comes along that is so emotionally moving that after finishing it you just have to sit down for a bit in a quiet place and let yourself think it all over. Lifemark is one of those movies. I just finished it a little while ago and even as I'm starting to do other things the film is not far from my mind.
There were a number of things that impressed me about Lifemark, from the decent acting to the way they used well-placed flashbacks to slowly build onto the story one step at a time. Needless to say, the Kendrick Brothers films have come a long way since Facing The Giants, which was also a good movie. But, what really caught my attention was that just as I was beginning to wonder how something like this might play out in reality, I discovered that Lifemark is actually based on a true story. Wow! And there's even a short documentary on the movie website that I will be watching very soon.
If, like me, you were a child born after 1973 you know just how easily your birth story might have gone another way. It's a disconcerting thought but it also makes you appreciate the people who make the better alternatives – like adoption – possible and available. It also makes you even more grateful to the people who chose to give you life. That's much of what Lifemark is about, the love of family. Whether they are your biological family, step family, or adoptive family. And, for all intents and purposes you were chosen by them.
So, if you are looking for a well-made Christian film about the power of love and family that you can watch with your own family (slightly older kids would be recommended), well, may I highly recommend Lifemark...
Tell Tale Book Reviews gives Lifemark a 4.5 Bark rating.
