My Review
I started SoJourner with some trepidation having read the blurb for it and guessing that it takes place some time after books 1 and 2. Would my favorite characters still be alive? Would I be mad at the changes time had wrought? I needn't have worried. Janalyn Voigt handled the changes with care and with concern for her readers. I was quite pleased to see some old friends from the previous books, one favorite character in particular, in addition to new ones like Mara and Rand.
I think SoJourner, at least the edition I have, has my favorite cover so far in Tales Of Faeraven series. It's colorful, dramatic, and has many of the elements directly from the story.
Really, the issue I had with this story is that it ends on a major cliffhanger. The previous books in the series did as well, but, each of them had at least something of a resolution while allowing the overarching tale to obviously continue in the next book. Now I have to waaaiiit for book 4 to release so I can find out what happens....
The series takes a darker turn with this book, which, in true fantasy fashion you have to have the darkness before the dawn can come. Surprisingly for me I think I actually liked the darker parts almost the best because they really highlight Rand's struggles and the fateful decision he must make.
I have to say that I've been quite enjoying Janalyn Voigt's Tales Of Faeraven series and SoJourner was no exception. Readers are once again transported right into the story by author Janalyn Voigt's vivid word-painting of her magical fantasy realm. So, if you are into epic journeys, sword fights, hidden identities, and flying horses, you really should check into this book and series...
Tell Tale Book Reviews gives SoJourner by Janalyn Voigt a 4.5 Bark rating.
